Need A Key For A 2011 Zetec

Featured Replies

I bought a Zetec TDCi today but it only came with one key which is a 3 button flip key. I had no idea getting a spare could be so complicated and expensive until I just started searching. What's the cheapest and easiest way to go about getting a spare? I'm not sure exactly what is involved in making it work properly.

Thanks.

Buy a spare complete key off ebay and ring some local auto locksmiths for cutting/coding quotes.

You'd be looking at £150+ from Ford.

Thanks, I'll go for that one instead. It says it's compatible with Fiesta '08 - '10, will it still be okay for an 11 plate?

As long as the blade is correct and the fob is the same as you have already then you should have no problems.

Timpson do transponder keys quite cheap.

Indeed they do but they clone the transponder rather than creating a standalone spare key.

This can cause problems if the ECU throws a wobbly.

I thought they had the bosch machine and they can find all the codes and they program them from scratch? Never used them just seen the machine and thought that.

To save me shopping around can anyone tell me if £50 is a reasonable price to get the key cut and coded?

Sounds about average.

Local ford garage sold me the fiesta with one key. Said they would do me a spare for free however the machine has been suspiciously broken for over a month..

When they say the machine is broken they are definitely talking cobblers.

They call out local auto locksmiths themselves.

A guy I use does all the keys for my local Dealers, they supply the keys and he does the work and then they charge you for the honour.
