Battery Light

Featured Replies

Hi all as per title i have had a battery light on the dash recently so i guessed it was either battery aint charging or has enough charge so checked battery with multimeter and 12.6v all good and checked the car when running and with the light on the dash its got 14.6v with the alternator charging it and also checked error codes and nothing so why is my battery check light coming on? A faulty sensor if there is a sensor on the circuit?

Testing the battery without it being under a heavy load is pointless so your first finding doesn't prove the battery.

14.6v is probably about right, but a conventional alternator will also put out a similar amount so it could be a smart charge fault

Not to insult you but is it secured correctly and the clamps nice and tight? Any cables joining them frayed / corroded?

No that was my first thought so i cleaned the terminals off all the crap and used new conductive grease to stop them corroding and the battery seems fine all nice and tight as can be and nothing is damaged at all from what i can see and a good clean earth point too as i cleaned that up and made sure it was touching metal rather than paint
