I've got a 2006 ford focus 1.6 petrol on 83,000

I want to get my cambelt changed with the whole kit and water pump.

So far I have been quoted at a few different garages prices ranging from £350 - £490

The last time when I had my cambelt changed on my mazda it only cost me £195

Are these prices right for the focus? Has anyone had theirs done recently that could let me know?

for a garage £350 is good for all that is being replaced. Ford quoted £450 for just the belt, I found an indie who did that and the pulley for £210.

Look at mobile mechanics, their overheads are low and they pass the saving on to you!

Just had water pump and new cambelt and alternator belt fitted on my friends Mk1 focus 6 weeks ago at an independant garage in wales after the pump decided to through water all over the engine. All in £330 gives you a rough idea.

I made an enquiry about the same thing not so long ago, and was quoted £418 from a main Ford dealer to replace the timing belt and its pulleys, waterpump, crankshaft main seal and labour to fit.

Not bad considering it was main dealer.

Prices down there must be high i had a full cambelt and aux belt done for £280 inc vat and parts at a ford dealers they also replaced the cam seal and bolts as well im sure the waterpump is droven by the aux belt not the cambelt so you could leave that till it needs done

Yeh to be honest I'm originally from stoke thinking of ringing ford up there and seeing how much they charge as a comparison.

if you do a cash no VAT then treat it like a random guy on the street did it - if it goes wrong your on your own.

All mechanics / shops / companies will have guarantees with their work, they have liability insurance if it goes wrong.

if your getting cam belt etc done then may as well do water pump as that'll need doing soon mate

Got my mate to do mine with water pump and lower pipe 250 cash owns his own garage know what your sayin jeebo but there reputation is still on the line but I would go to someone I trust not a cowboy .

tis true! some will pretend it never happened, theres no evidence though, police and tax man cant find a trace of the transaction so if it went to court they would be favoured anyway!

as you say, a mate, or a rather trusted garage is fine, but you have to be careful who you offer that sort of cash to otherwise!

I had ford do it one as they werent that more expensive than most other places but also as they did it it was gauranteed should anything have happened they would have had to repair it

Ive known of some in the past who still do it the old fashioned way using tipex to mark the timing as a lot of indys dont have yhe locking tool nor will they buy one and some arent aware that some of yhe bolts are stretch bolts and should be replaced they just pop the old one back in so as above someone you trust
