My grandad's car needs a new home

Hello everyone. Being a girl (and a modern Ford owner) I'm not really too sure the best way to go about this so I need some advice. My grandad is 85 and we are trying to persuade him to the merits of giving up his Ford Escort in favour of a car with some power steering etc to make his life easier. It's proving tricky, but never mind. Anyway, we'd like the car to go to a good home. It's a Y reg silver Escort Ghia (August 1982) with about 107000 miles on the clock. I don't want to get in trouble for advertising, and this isn't an advert. I would just like to know the best way to sell it and a rough price of what to expect. It's in good nick - my grandad has had it from new and it's serviced, taxed and MOT'd. We'd just like it go to someone who would appreciate it! I hope someone can help me anyway. at the moment if your grandad can afford to do it, would be to look at the currant scrappage sceam which would get you £2000 of discount on a new car. you could have a brand new car on the drive way for as little as £4500 outlay. with the currant market the car is only worth a few hundred in the private sale sector.

Thanks for that, good point. He's going to have my Mum's Mazda 2 though as she doesn't need it any more and it's too good to get rid of. Hadn't thought of the scrappage though.

Don't scrap it! That's the worst thing you could do. All car yards do is add the trade in price to the cars they're selling and are overpriced anyway, eBay is a good place.

If you set the reserve high and leave your contact details in the ad people can contact you and thus settle the sale out of eBay and away from those fees. Who knows if someone ends up buying it for a stupid amount all the better to you! :)
