Mk5 Shenanigans (Upgrades)

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have a MK5 1.3 flight 5dr. Was looking at a few upgrades.

Autowindscreens buddy of mine suggested I go for heated front screen when I change mine for MOT. (got a chip). Said wiring should be there but need fuse and button?

Other was adding remote central locking. As this would also save me having to replace the drivers door lock. I have seen some people talk about this as only really needing a module change and re-program?

Heated electric mirrors/windows possible if cheap enough.

Dash upgrade. I don't even have a rev counter or a temp gauge.

You may be thinking "this guy got the wrong car". It fell into my lap as a car someone thought was fooked and tried to palm me off with but joke was on him as it was a simple fix.

All of these are very much optional. I guess I am bored.

So I'm basically asking, would the loom I have in this even take all/any this stuff? I have seen you can do aftermarket central locking, might go that route but would be nice to have ford own.

Welcome to the forum,

Chances are ford fitted the same loom to all models then limited hardware,

Best to search ebay.co.uk for parts or breakers,

Ghia models are top spec so they would have the extras you seek.

Hi Lenny thank you.

Yeas I was looking at grabbing an MOT failed Ghia just to scavange all the parts from then scrap.

I was just looking for someone to give me a heads up on what would work and what wouldn't.

Like the remote locking thing, Does it need a new module or just buy a fob and program it?

If I put a white backed ghia dash in will the rev and temp gauge just work?

The cluster should work as its pre Can-Bus era as far as im aware shouldn't need any programming,

As for remote central locking,

If you can get a doner car with key fob and the synced modules then go for it,

But if not, your best getting aftermarket kit because ford programmed keys can get expensive as they have to contain programmed imobiliser chip aswell as specific cut key and wirless synced transmitter,
