St2 2009 Audio Unit Switching Off And Resetting Sat Nav To Germany And Km/h, Lost All Addresses And Won't Save New

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I have searched on the web and in the forums but haven't spotted this problem yet, so any advice would be most welcome!

I have the built-in SatNav with the DEATC, rearview camera and Bluetooth. Up until a couple of months ago (ish), when powering up the engine the audio/display unit always resumed whichever on/off state it had been in when the engine was powered off. Now the audio/display unit remains in the 'off' state regardless and I have to manually switch it on every time. It then switches itself off randomly during a journey, and each time it is as if there has been a partial reset. The SatNav has lost my entire address book, doesn't remember even the journey it was running at the time and I can't store any new locations. When inputting the journey again I have to change location to England and reset the distance to mph rather than kph. I can do all this and then it will switch itself off again a few minutes later and I'll be back to square one. I am only pressing the button to switch the unit back on - I'm not restarting the car. The SatNav doesn't always come back - even once the unit is back on I may not be able to input an address and the 'map' is blank with the pink circular car icon in the middle of it. It is only the stereo/display unit that is affected - my trip is fine, and the measurement units in the cluster remain in imperial. The date/time in the audio/display unit are also unaffected and when the unit switches itself off, the radio continues to play - though if I am listening to a CD or the iPod these will go off with the display, but then it will default to the radio instead. I haven't thought to check whether the air con remains on when the unit goes off.

This might not be at all significant, but since new - unlike my husband's Mondeo - if I switch the audio/display system on without power to the engine, I have almost always been unable to switch it off again without powering the engine up first. I never get the warning that you do with the Mondeo that says it will only stay on for 1 hour. So there could have been a fault with the unit from the very beginning, I just assumed that's how it was with the Focus!

If you've got this far then thanks for perservering! Anyone heard of this/have any clues?

Ta!

I'd wonder if you've a loose connection to the sat nav unit or somewhere else in the wiring for it, or perhaps there is a back-up battery in the unit which stores your settings so when you turn the car off it doesn't lose all it's settings etc.

Anything come up if you google the issue?

Thanks for replying Troy. I've tried "audio system switching off ford focus" and lots of other things, but didn't find anything. I looked through lots of posts on this forum too. What you've suggested makes sense. I'll try and google that and see if it gets me anywhere! I was reminded when I made a trip today, in which I was only out of the car for a few minutes, that the audio system kicks back in on startup when the car hasn't been off for long.

Thanks!

It could be a fault with the ignition live circuit to the radio.

Looks like it might well be the fuse. Only had chance to test it last week - probably should have waited to ask until after the summer holidays! Was too worried about breaking my car to try it when I needed it every day!

Both appear fine but one fuse creates sparks when I put it back, whereas the other one just goes in (so I assume the sparky one is live and the other one dead). Thanks very much Stoney and Naz - I can't seem to find a way to buy the fuses independently, but at least I can point the garage in a direction! :-D
