Mk2.5 - Flywheel Hell - Same Old Story??

Featured Replies

either way get it changed, when mine was on the way out as i said sometimes it made no noise at all. othertimes it was like a bag of spanners

Yeah I haven't cancelled it or anything, just very weird - I can't do anything to make it make a noise now, yet as I said last week it was a bag of spanners as you suggest!

its really annoying isnt it, just take it easy and lets hope all is well after the swap.

getting a service at the same time?

Probably not mate. When I got it at ~50000 the service history wasn't spotless so I've done the oil services at 10k (think the int is 12.5k?), mainly because the oil change and filter is easy as owt - even I can do it. Replace the rest as and when. Fuel filter was done was 50k I think so maybe need to look at it.

For a modern car its pretty easy to do yourself the 2.0, and as I plan on running it into the ground, I doubt people will care about service history at 150k+ (he says hopefully!).

That said the oil is due.

i do all my services myself too, its too easy not to.

mine is getting on a bit too so dont this service history is a major on, i keep all my parts receipts anyway

Yeah same. I've been quite surprised how easy certain stuff is.

I figure the 1.8 and the 2.0 are so underworked in the focus it should last pretty well. Took ages to find a 2l with bluetooth, dab and cruise but I did it with the plan that its pretty modern, got lots of toys so I can keep it forever!

I just added everything I wanted, all of your list apart from cruise which I have the wheel for now

Yeah I didn't know about ELM at the time! Would have made it a lot easier. The Ghia's had Cruise as standard, but Titanium's are a pain in the !Removed! to second guess. Ford Etis was a help but it genuinely took a lot of effort to find what I wanted.

BTW, as you've had the same trouble as me, does this ring a bell...

Every day, sometimes multiple times, and usually not long after I set off driving, theres a clicking noise.... goes like ... click click .... click. Sounds like an adjustment of some sort, and seems to have got more regular as the flywheel problem became apparent. Any idea what it is? Sounds like a switch clicking on and off rather than anything mechanical.

could be anything... are you able to post a video or a sound recording of the issues?

You sure is not the abs self test you are hearing?

I have no idea - good thinking on the recording.... I'll try and do so.

Weirdly I can almost make it happen by driving down a specific road with a bump on it too fast... over the bump and you hear the click.

Should point out its not really an issue (yet!) - just wondered what it was. Sounds like it comes from the passenger side so the click itself could be a relay in the fuse box I guess.

or it could be a lower wishbone, lower torque mount. you should get it to a garage who can lift the car up on a ramp and inspect everything. i used to have a click too around that area and it turned out to be the lower gearbox mount

It's definitely not a knock though... like... I'm explaining this really badly but the car is doing something itself. It's a program/adjustment of some description not connected direct to the movement of the car.

It's in for the flywheel anyway so I will mention it to them also.

ok yeah make sure they have a good look at all the mounts and lower arm bushes and the drive-shafts also

From what I understand you are talking about a "click" like a relay etc not a knock/thud right?

Will do. Get the usual 95235252 point check stuff as well. I'm sure they'll not miss a chance to charge me for more work!

Exactly. A relay, an auto-adjusting.. something. Electronic on/off rather than a something loose. It also doesn't sound 'wrong' - sounds like something the car should do, but I'd like to know what.

Car went in today so I'm £800 lighter but I have my car back....

What a difference! Basically all the little weird noises and vibrations, lumpy engine etc (see my back catalogue of threads!)...

All gone.

It's smooth, bizarrely seems faster but must be an effect, it's brilliant and in amazed and what a dodgy flywheel can do

WOW!

I'll report back when I've run it a bit more but I wanted to highlight my excitement!
