New 1.6 Tdci Fiesta Mpg?

Featured Replies

Hey all. After I have had my car 9 months I can change. I currently have a 1l ecoboost which although a step down from my ST before I really like it. However im curious as to what sort of mpg you guys are getting out of your 1.6 tdci fiestas? Also what sort of driving style is it thats getting you your MPG?

Thanks, Jack

I've not long got a 1.6 TDCi 2011 model & if I keep to the gear change arrow on the RPM it lasts noticeably longer.

I put £30 worth of fuel in & it filled the best part of the tank.

Although with the excitement of going from a 1.1 Peugeot 206 to a 1.6 turbo its not lasting me long..

Haha fair enough what is your trip computer telling you average mpg wise? Cheers for the reply :)

My wee van is a 2010 with the 90BHP 1.6 TDCI .. I do a lot of motorway driving so a 70 /30 mix 70% being on the motorway.. Driving normally by which I mean not hammering it or driving like miss daisy I get 60 + MPG..

My neighbor who has a 2010 1.6 Petrol was considering getting a 1.0 Ecoboost to cut down on his fuel bills (He is retired) and after me pointing him at the thread on here talking about the real world economy of those cars he changed his mind..

I do at least 1000 miles per week which is why I bought the 1.6 TDCI. It has not disappointed !

I only do 11,000 miles a year so a diesel has never made financial sense, if your doing 1,000 a week I can see it would.

I did read an interesting article in Which? magazine comparing ownership costs for the petrol/diesel versons of several cars for the average annual mileage and the petrol version was the winner in the Fiesta. The figures did seem to be based on real world MPG.

Thats fair enough. When financing a car for 9 months, with no servicing costs, tax to pay, stuff like that I would think it would work out cheaper. Also I do love the torque of a diesel :)

Also charlie thats a damn tidy van haha :)

I'd be intertested in peoples real MPG figures rather than the trip computer, the trip on mine is showing 50mpg since the last fill but I know from my calculations it's probably about 47.

The lowest I've seen is 44mpg but I have noticed it's improved a bit since the weather has got cooler and the climate control is doing less work, also I think I've got used to the gearing and how to get the best out of the engine.

I've had cars that have nearly been this economical but they haven't been this powerful.

Yeah I think fords trip computers really do have a tendancy to be ovee the top with the MPG I have measured it a few times tbf :/

All OBCs on all vehicles tend to over read.. My figures are actual worked out from brim to brim filling. I only use quality fuel like Shell Vpower Nitro or BP Ultimate and the van is very well serviced with oil changes every 6.000 mile max . Oil used is Morrises C 1 fully synthetic low SAPS.

The wee van is likely quite a bit lighter than say the Zetec S on which its based so this likely helps. Add to that it goes through less cold start/warm up cycles Per 1000 miles which must aid MPG .. .

Many owners of diesels will not get best MPG until their engines have passed 10 or 15,000 miles.

I have a 2012 1.6 TDCi and I normally average around 60 mpg. I would I so 75% of my miles doing 50 mph on the A1 though.

I have got 68 before which wasn't a very fun week though!

My 1.6 TDCi gets 66.4mpg (worked out not from trip computer) sitting at 2k rpm approx 66/7mph? If you sit at 75 it'll get 60mpg again worked out.

Edit - 61 plate fiesta

Well this all sounds very good. The last place I looked to find out whar mpg these 1.6 diesels do were slating them saying they were rubbish but they sound really good haha.

Might not be of much use to you since I've got an older tdci but my mk6 will get me 52mpg with my foot glued to the floor or if I drive with consideration for other road users I usually see between 62-65..

Hope that helps!

They are by no means fast though! You won't be pulling out on fast roads without a gap as far as you can see lol

From the financial side of things they make a lot of sense, no matter your mileage - free road tax, easy 60mpg. If the vehicle is leased or under a warranty then the extra things to go wrong aren't a problem either, soon as the miles start to rise and warranties expire though you've got turbos and injectors to fail which are not cheap jobs.

The fiesta is nearly on 50k and has new discs, brakes the full job after one failed. Which set the leasing company back £260 just for that. It has some annoying rattles, silver trim around instrument cluster, somewhere passenger side too.

I actually read the Which? article properly today. It was comparing the 100bhp 1 litre v the 1.6 diesel over 3 years/36,000 miles, while the diesel was better for MPG, it lost out on servicing, insurance and depeciation.

I would be interested to know if there is a real life difference between th 100 and 125 petrol even though the official figures are the same.

Well the way I get my fords the servicing and depreciation to not matter and as fot insurance I get quotes of about the same price haha.

but yeah I would love to know the real world difference between the two 1l petrols as surely the 100hp you just have to rev more to get any sort of performance out of it haha?
