Stoney871 Posted October 16, 2014 Share Posted October 16, 2014 The aerial length is very important when matching to a set frequency range. The lower the frequency, the longer the aerial (or more accurately antenna). Mid-range VHF (FM radio range) needs an antenna of at least 30cm in order to be 'matched' to it's target frequency and anything shorter will reduce reception quality drastically. Even pairing a stubby with an ampliifier merely increases the signal from the antenna to the radio, it will not make the signal to the antenna stronger. In fact an amplifier can make a signal much worse as it will amplify any reception errors therefore making the signal extremely distorted. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
