Mk6 Cam Belt Change.

Featured Replies

Firstly hello. This is my first post although I've been lurking for a while :-)

I'm changing the cambelt on a 2002 1.4 duratec fiesta as a favour. That's the first mistake!

I've come across the dreaded and much written about seized crank bolt. I had the timing set in the tdc position, removed the tools, car in gear only front right wheel off road helpers foot on the brake, gave the crank bolt a big tug with a breaker bar and one bang later the tensioner pulley broke and the cams jumped a couple of notches.

My question is: when/if I get the crank bolt out and re align the cams can they only go in one position or could they be 180 degrees out? I think that the lobes on no 4 cylinder should be pointing down. Can anyone confirm this.

Cheers.
