Earlier this year as you probably know, I had a turbo seal failure on my MK2.5 Focus Diesel 1.6 TDCI resulting in engine runaway.

Thus far, the 3 year warranty has failed to fix this problem, and legally I can't afford to take them on and challenge them, and I have outstanding finance on the car I need to pay off.

What would you recommend I do?

Buy a second hand engine from eBay or someone who deals in engines and then sell her?

Or.. Break her into parts and try and recoup as much money as I can?

Ideas please?

Hi Andy, sorry to hear it's ended like this for you!

If your willing to do the job yourself, I would source another engine and repair it. If your not willing to carry out the repairs yourself then it might be worth getting a few quotes to see what the likely costs involved are going to be.

I don't see why you can't keep hold of the car after it's repaired? Selling it on will probably mean you loose more money on it.

• Less than 24 hours after getting the car back (after not having it for 2 weeks due to EGR valve) a deer runs right out in front of me resulting in a new bumper, headlights and windscreen. £400 excess
• Half the heated windscreen fails to work due to bad installation, new windscreen fitted
• DPF becomes blocked even though I do long journeys to London and back every week - So I get it Terracleaned - £200
• New windscreen gets a stone chip, and then gets repaired.
• New windscreen repair cracks

• New windscreen never gets replaced again due to turbo failure.
• Warranty company fail to pay out - resulting in £200 of car hire and towing fees.

So yeah, I want to either fix it and get rid or break it and scrap it now.

Well it certainly has been an expensive car, I can see why you want rid of it now.

Is it on hire purchase? If so and you have paid half of the total payable under the agreement, you could give it back to the finance company with nothing more to pay and cut your losses. Just a thought.

Sadly not :( If it was hire purchase, I wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. They would have gone absolutely nuts!

And to add to the bottom of this list:

• Hired car has to go back - Had to buy a car - Got a W Reg Mondeo MK2 2.0L Petrol for £500
• Mondeo needs a new clutch - £400
• Now needs a bearing and rear brake discs and pads - £150ish

bloomin hell, you've not had luck with either car.

i'd get rid of the mondeo too if it needs that much money spending on it.

blimey mate, I'm really sorry to hear about your bad luck. I thought I had it bad when the clutch and dmf went just before Christmas resulting in a £700 bill :(. I suppose it depends on how much you owe on the car. If your thinking about a new engine then there are companies out there that would source one for you and fit it for around £1,000, so might be worth getting a price from these guys first

If its a reasonable price then get it done and sell it for top whack. But If its well beyond what your willing to pay out then, cut your losses and sell it as spares or repairs. It seems a real shame how you've spent such a lot of money on a fairly new car and something like that happens. Surely you should be offered something from the garage you bought this from or even Ford. Seems really unfair to me.
