Mk2 Knock/thud Over Bumps At Slow Speed

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2010 1.6 tdci Focus that has only done 25k.

Over certain bumps at slow speed (say under 30) there is a thud sort of knock from the front that isn't loud, but doesn't seem normal.

I have replaced the drop links and control arms.

I pulled on the struts with the wheels off and the top mounts seemed solid.

Any ideas what it could be?

95% of people probably wouldn't notice, but I have OCD for this kind of thing!

Thanks

Springs all intact?

Yeah the springs look perfect.

Nowt wrong with OCD with knocks/bumps etc ,I would have said drop links but you have covered that one unless you bought cheap ones , my drop links bang like there's a pixie with a hammer underneath il do em when I get 5 mins spare.

25000 everything should be tight maybe turn up the radio a bit :afro::iim: :D :driving:

What about the D bushes holding the anti roll bar? Speaking of them I've just replaced 2 sets both on VW's recently! Must be German rubbish.. Haha

They looked perfect as well, not even the slightest bit of wear on either side.

Even though I could not move them by hand, could a top mount be dodgy?

Ah the D bushes they don't like em up em captain Mainwaring :iim: :D :driving:

Top mounts done. Still knocks now and then.

Drove a friends car which is basically identical but has done 53k and it does the same thing!!

It can't be normal though, just no way. When it does it you can even slightly feel it through the wheel and it's harsh/nasty.

I've noticed it does it more if you are steering a bit. I went round a slowish sweeper (about 15 mph), hit a small bump and "knock" with a short small jolt through the wheel.

Yes it could be. I'm getting a similar problem, and I know my driver's side top mount is fukt.

It could also be something like the sway bar end.

Might seem strange but try greasing the steering wheel shaft. I done this on my old clio sport and sorted the problem.
