61 Plate Zetec Making Clunking Noise

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm looking for some help and a possible diagnosis on my Focus. I bought the Focus (used with 14,500 miles) a month ago. Within the past week I have started to hear a noise when slowing down and speeding up. Also when braking.

I will try to describe it. Bear with me!

I'll use yesterday as an example. I drove 200 miles yesterday. When I start driving the car it doesn't make the noise, after about twenty minutes of driving it starts.l Coming out of Aberdeen and slowing at a roundabout my car starts to make the noise. The only way I can think to describe it is like a flapping card stuck in bicycle spokes. The noise speeds up with increased speed and slows down when the car does. Once I got up to 70mph I couldn't hear the noise any more. I got an hour into my journey and slowed for roundabouts. The clutch became more difficult to depress when at speed. There was very loud noise when braking and once the car stopped it made a loud grinding noise. Quite disconcerting! The clunking noise was louder too.

There are no warning lights up. The brakes feel fine under foot and the car seems to stop efficiently enough. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

TIA.
