My Mk7 Makes A Hooting Noise..

Featured Replies

My car makes a hooting (like an owl) noise when I turn the engine off. I can't understand what it could be? It's serviced regularly, I keep everything under the bonnet topped up & it passed its mot with flying colours. It happens when I've been driving for more than about 10 - 15 minutes. I pull up & turn off the engine & it hoot's at regular intervals about 4 or 5 times? Sometimes it doesn't happen but I'd say 6 times out of 10 it does. It drives perfectly?

Have you changed the owl and filter recently?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I am wondering if it's hot air escaping from somewhere?

...also try re-seating the cap on the expansion tank in case it's coming from there.

;) I see what you did there

That could be a cause, I'm gonna get a mate to turn it off while I look around the engine bay to try & narrow it down.

ac on when you turn ignition off?

Also, that comment made me laugh and everyone else in the room now thinks I'm crazy...

It's normal, did it to my old one after every drive.
