Headliner Clip Missing

Featured Replies

Hi while I was Hunting a rattle from the rear of my 2009 Zetec, I found the left hand inner grab handle screw had actually snapped off it's head! The handle was loose and rattling, only slightly but I hate rattles. I superglued it in place, If that doesn't work I will probably break it off!

Anyway, I noticed the head lining was slightly out of the rubber boot seal at the back of the roof, probably only a mil, I tucked it back it, there was no real movement or sagging in it, but I then noticed one of the white push fasteners in the roof lining was also missing, and now it attracts my eyes every time I look in the mirror!

I couldn't find a part number so called Ford who said this usually requires a new roof, they had to refit quite a few and the screen has to be removed! They don't sell the part and if I pushed one in it will just come out again?

I Googled this and only found one other instance,

Any idea how I can cover up this black hole in my roof liner?

I am impressed with overall built quality, the the quality of the trim seems terrible, it's like an airfix kit!

Cheers guys.

Remove the whole headliner for one new retainer?

Thanks, Yeah it's a tiny bit out of shape I guess, but the suspension is rather stiff on the car.

Thanks for your help.

You wouldn't have the screw that fixes the interior tailgate grab handle I suppose I could try and drill the broken one out? Really must remember the car is five years old and I should expect a little wear and tear!

Microcat doesn't show the fixings for the grab handle at all.

I'd drill it out and replace with a suitable rivnut and bolt.-

Okay. Thanks again for your help.

Checking another website gives finis 1433875 for the grab handle screws. Same screws used to hold the sun visors in place.

You can also see the clips which the grab handle screws go into - HC1 1088647.

Also there's 2 part numbers for the push pins for the different colours, light and dark but don't know which is which, meant to order some for mine recently but didn't get round to it.

If you're lucky you may be able to drop the headliner down at the rear to get better access to the broken screw and retainer - push pins need removing, rest of rear grab handle screws, and also the screws under the long trim covers running along the rear of headliner at top of the rear door (assuming the 5dr has these same as 3dr)

Don't think you'll manage to fix it with a rivnut as the hole in the body will be fairly large and square shaped. Perhaps now that the head has snapped off the screw, the piece remaining in the clip will come out fairly easily if you can manage to turn it. Failing that try getting the clip out with the screw still in it then have a go at removing it.

That's great thanks so much for the advice guys, I couldn't find anything with Google.

£3.18 and fitted! Cheers guys.
