Should I Get Plastic Underneath The Engine On The Ecoboost ?

Featured Replies

This may sound a bit odd, but I've noticed the Diesel mk7.5 come with a large amount of plastic underneath the engine (between the road and the engine bay)

I figure this is to keep dirt, water and eventually snow outside of the engine bay, so why isn't there any on the ZS ? If you open the bonnet you can see straight through down to the asphalt.

So I'm considering getting this plastic fitted, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this ? (i.e. is it a bad idea)

If it doesn't impede the engine bay or handling then it's likely a very good idea. My ST doesn;t have any under engine bay protection either, which seems to be a poor decision on Fords part as the bay gets very dirty from road debris and water ingress.

I wondered about this too and considered getting one.

Looks like your gunna be the guinea pig mate ;)

These shields do very little. There is nothing in the engine bay low down that need protecting unless you plan on going off road. Joke that was ................ Better airflow of the engine bay without the shield is also maybe a good thing. Ford has deleted these things on certain engine types for a reason..

Good point Charlie. I was thinking of using it as a water shield for my induction kit ;)

If anyone is going to but the under tray the fini code is 1794581, then you need fixings 5 x 1382031 & 5 x 1019377

Not sure why the ecoboost cars don't have them either cooling or cost or the diesels have it for sound deadening.
