Backlighting On Information Display

Featured Replies

The backlighting on my display is quite adequate and controllable after dark but the illumination is totally inadequate in most daylight situations.

Is there any way in which this can be boosted?

Stan

As far as I've worked out, with the headlights off all the illuminated bits and pieces are just powered with a 12V supply from inside the bit of kit you're looking at (radio, clocks, heater module etc) - the dimmed feed comes in externally but there's no specific feed for the daytime lighting. When you adjust the dimmer switch to it's max you get pretty much the same voltage to the LED's.

Only way to get them brighter would be to change all the SMD's to brighter versions or raise the voltage on them above the power coming from the car - but as there's no isolated circuit for the illumination you'd have to jack up the whole cluster voltage and this would most likely end in tears.

Thanks - I wouldn't know how to go about getting at the SMDs, let alone changing them, so I guess I'll have to live with it

are you talking about the display on the dash or the radio? as yours is 2006 i assume you have green led's and the info display on the dash is fine in daylight but the sony radio is not readable in daylight

It is the dash display, although I find the radio etc. fairly unreadable.
