1.8Tdci Cold Start - Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Hi All

A quickie, Last night when leaving work the red cog on the dash which im sure many 1.8tdci owners have become familiar with came on befor eeven switching the damn engine on!

I pondered whether to start up, but finally did; the red cog remained on...Started to drive home and it became apparent the car was in limp mode.

Half a mile down the road it went off and all my power came back.

This morning my drive to work, exactly the same situation!

Never had this problem before, EGR perhaps? knackered glow plug?

FYI My fuel is below 1/4, but this has never given me a problem before.

Next point would be I am going to buy a blank for the EGR, anyone got a good supplier, one they have bought from ebay perhaps?

Coming back to this, it did this again today on my way home from work, Limp mode, wouldn't go above 3000 rpm.

Got to the same point and limp mode vanished and power returned...Perhaps the engine isn't warming enough from the glow plugs??
