Buying A Mk6 Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the site here.

Looking at getting a 02-06 reg'ed Fiesta for the Gf, she is learning to drive and is too scared to drive the 1.9tdi so we have so its up for sale. Looking for something that's not dead in power but returns good Mpg. Would I be right in thinking the mk6 1.3 is the best of the models for mpg/power ratio.

Thanks

I have the 1.25 Finesse. It's fairly slow and does struggle on steep hills, while doing OK on fuel (half a tank has lasted me a week driving 28 miles every day) .

Check my Gallery you will see my mk6.5 1.25 zetec blue (limited edition) it was a great car has trip computer air con amazing sound system standard! (the bass was epic) and a generally a great car the had auxiliary and heated front window and rear and nice wheels the 1.25 could go when you wanted it and I was getting 35mpg (depends on ur driving but mines was mostly towns) couldn't suggest it more had it for 3yrs only changed car 2weeks ago and loved it

My first car was a MK6 1.4 Flame (same as Zetec) which was great for me at the time. It would do 40 MPG if I drove it economically and the engine had plenty of performance for a first car. One time on a long motorway trip with 3 people and lots of luggage, I was amazed that it could hold 70mph up what seemed like a steep hill, albeit with my foot hard to the floor :). It was a great little car.

Very nice car James. The Zetec model is catching my eye alright, I was reading a lot about them and people reckon they have great performance for a small engine. I don't really want to go over the 1.4L as shes a awful nervous driver :P. But I would like something I could jump into myself and nip about in.

Anybody know do the 1.4 generally do better mileage than the 1.25 or 1.3?

Also what do I look out for when buying a Mk6 model?

Look out for rust around the wheel arches, that's all I know.

As for her being nervous about the 1.4, it only has 80 PS and the 0-60 is over 13 seconds, not something to be nervous about at all, but I can understand if she's only driven a car with a smaller engine.

1.4 are roughly the same minus a few mpg.

Brakes pipes corroded mainly on the o/s/r due to there not being much protection from the heatshield.

Front coil springs snap if they havnt got the zinc plate in the suspension cup.

Core plugs can leak. Remove the h.t lead under the airbox to check.

Thermostat housing leaks (underneath alternator)

Seat tilt cables snap and the handle snaps too.

Abs pumps can be common but a a.b.s light would be permantley on if this happens or no or irratic speedo.

Exaust backbox can corrode and fall off the centre pipe.

Rear wiper can not park in the correct posistion.

As for rust unless its from scotland or near a coast they dont tend to rust that bad (compared to mk5) sills and arches.

Cant really think of much more from the top of my head

Cheers a loved the car! The zetec blue has a upgraded sound system (same as Mondeo mk4) Look out for small dots of rust where paint has came off from a chip and also rust under the edge of car near the beginning of wheel arches too but 1.4 has 80ps and 1.2 is 70 or 75ps but tax! 1.2 is £110 tax and 1.4 is £140 tax
