gnscloz
Hi all newbie here, bought accident damed 2014 1.6 tdci titanium nav estate with start button Car had moderate frontal and was non runner, had engine out jogged and put new chassis legs on put engine back in, only damage was to engine loom, replaced with new one from ford and damaged clutch master cylinder so got no clutch, when you press start button says engine malfunction and won't start I was concerned ecu might be spiked so plugged one in from another car, that too says engine malfunction and obv don't recognise key, what I'm wondering is a, is it because no clutch? I assume clutch switch to start is electrical not a pressure switch or as something electrical shut down after rta? Can't be ecu because tried another, in old days you had inertia fuel cut off switch , Any advice appreciated
troy45
Maybe daft question but have you checked fuses? one or more might have blown when the engine loom was damaged. Next step I would guess to be getting the fault codes read. Did the rta set off any of the airbags? would wonder if the restraints module (RCM) has gone into crash mode but this would possibly bring airbag light on too. gnscloz
Hi thanks for reply checked all fuses all ok airbags triggered but repaired one previous that had airbags gone and it started, I think it's either because clutch master cylinder gone so no pressure when press clutch to start or some kind electrical shut down

Is the engine turning over at all?

simcor
Check the fuel cut off switch first in the event of an accident these need to be reset to allow fuel pump to run although can't remember if this will stop the car from trying to start off hand. It's a free 30 sec check and worth doing first.
peterbrooks
From what you've said it does sound like you will need to sort out the clutch as you do have to press down the clutch before you press the start button as it's all part if the stop start set up Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
