blazeman
Hi I'm sure this will have been covered before but... I have a 1.8 tdci 09 plate. When I bought the car it had a few big scratches on the gear stick surround. Anyway I went ahead and ordered some black carbon fibre wrap to cover it with. To cut a long story short iv wrapped it but I'm not happy with it. I cannot seem to get it to wrap around the long curves near the drinks holder and on the left of it. It's fitted in my car now but looks like my 5 year old did it for me. I heated it and tried to stretch it but I just will not sit right. Has anyone got any tips or tricks they used to help them. I can't live with the scratches or some dodge attempt at wrapping them.... HELP!!!???? Thanks in advance Dave
Stoney871
Wrapping is tricky around tight curves without lots of wrinkles. Have you thought of hydro dipping or acquiring a RS panel which comes in carbon print? The RS consoles are rare but do come up (I have the full RS dash and console trim in mine and it looks good). I do have a spare Titanium spec console top here if you wanted to make an offer :d It's a silver carbon fibre pattern.
blazeman
Hi No I haven't ever heard of hydro dipping? What is it. And it also sounds expensive. Lol. I did the vinyl wrap as it was cheap and on some posts on here looked to be very effective. Don't get me wrong my attempt wasn't terrible. Just some spots that I'm not happy with. And thanks but I'll pass on the offer of your titanium spec top console. It wouldn't match the rest. Cheers anyway though. Dave
troy45
Can masked off parts go through the hydro-dipping process or do you have to do the whole panel etc? It's not a nice job trying to split out the painted section of the facelift console top panel so expect the whole thing would have to go in the dipping vat. The ST also uses the same dash and console parts as the RS, took mine off and got a shiny silver set fitted (mixture of Focus CC parts and painted) as I never liked the fake carbon. On the press photos of the RS500 they actually had little RS logos in the print instead of the usual (not)carbon pattern. Guess there's lots of options like that once you go to hydro-dipping.
