2006 1.8Tdci Dmf Being Changed This Weekend

Featured Replies

Hello all

So this weekend I am having my DMF changed for one which works and doesn't vibrate the hell out of my car.

My mechanic friend will be doing the work as he has all the tools and a big ramp/pit at his work, however I need a run down on the bill of materials

Obviously we have so far;

Dual mass flywheel - Ford Supply (works out cheaper than euro car parts!

Clutch Kit - Luk/sach Supply

Slave Cylinder - Luk/Sach Supply

However, what else is required for this job? new seals, hoses for the cyclinder?

Thanks

Oh and I am having my EGR blanked this weekend it is going to be like a new car when again...

Seems about it bar new gear box oil .

If it were my car I would be replacing gearbox oil seals and gearbox oil. Also new hub/driveshaft bolts (stretch bolts I believe so use only once) and ball joint nuts (being nyloc they should only be used once technically).

which ford supply flywheel is it that you are using? the eurocarparts one is around £200 so im interested to know where youre getting it from. ford use LUK flywheels

Euro is currently £300, they jacked they price up yesterday by 20%.

Ford said it will either be a LUK or SACH

*EDIT*

Just went on carparts4less which is an affiliated company of euro car parts, and they are cheaper than euro car parts by a LOT. Online delivery only, but that is fine with me, I will delivery to my work.

Thats £215 for the SACH clutch.

One question though, there are two LUK slave cylidners on euro car parts site and car parts 4 less site, with two different part numbers.

645590229 and 645590220

Anyone know which one of these fits my 2006 1.8tdci?

One of the slave cylinders you are able to use the original 3 bolts to bolt it on but the other is made differently and you should get new (shorter) bolts supplied in the kit.

shame the supplier is not local to you because you could have bought both and returned the one you didn't use.

maybe a phone call to them with your REG and hopefully get the correct one.

Good luck get some pics if you can :D

Well I have the parts now.

In the end my friend went through his company and got all sach parts for £355 inc VAT which is basically a trade price.

The work will be done over two days so I won't be there when its done (he recons he needs a good 8 hours - ish)

But I will keep the old parts and photograph them with comparable photos of new ones

I could do it on a driveway in less than 8 hours lol

Perhaps, I will ask him how long it took him when I get the car back.

this couldn't come at a better time, last night at traffic lights the car started to shake (rpm was nudging up and down) and the flywheel started to knock like buggery, put the clutch in and it sorted it...not good!

let him take as long as he likes, as long as its done properly.

good luck and let us know the results :)

I agree it shouln't take 8 hours in a workshop. The mk11 focus has a bit more room than the earlier model so a slightly easier fit.

Well the work has been done £500 lighter now and the improvement is very noticeable.

Vibrations and buzzing sounds from the dash are 90% gone (the rest is the lumpy 1,8 lynx engine!), gear changes are smoother, feels like a new car.

I will make one observation, the old flywheel which I examined last night had SACH stamped on the inside face. This means either the flywheel has been done before OR the original flywheels ford used were SACH.

To prevent premature failure, how do I look after it properly?

ford use LUK, with a FoMoCo stamp on it, so its probably been changed before.

Yes that was my gut feeling, the previous owners may have been a bit stupid with the car and ragged it silly.

The flywheel wasn't 100% gone, the unit had a bit of excessive movement in it so it was at 'stage 1' of knackered flywheel-itus.

For those who think these cars judder at 1100-1200 rpm because their flywheel is gone, that is 100% fals, mine still does it and my injectors are pucker.

yeah, i still get the judder around 1100-1200 after my flywheel/clutch change, definately the injectors as they are starting to tick on part throttle.

as long as its made a positive change thats good news for you :)
