nashy
Great, got the new car yesterday, drives lovely, took it for a little run and although the trip computer is maybe only a guide i was pleased to see 57 mpg on the screen.although this was 80% motorway. My only gripe is the fact i can't use the ford sync thingy to it's full potential due to the fact i have an i Phone 4 and it's not compatible with the messaging service. I'm due an upgrade so i ran my local dealer to find out what phone is compatible and i'm told not many. no i phones,no samsungs no htc, only certain blackberries. Is this true or has anybody got a phone that does work...

MattDRX
Have you updated to the latest IOS? Old mans iPhone 4 works perfectly fine in mine.
Phil 87
By messaging service do you mean the thing that reads your texts to you? That works with my Motorola Moto E, and I think it worked with my old HTC Desire C too. The only problem I had with Sync was that it kept displaying the icon that says you have a text all the time, just cos I didn't let it read a text once. Yes i have the latest update, certain things work ok but not the text reading which just says phone not compatible. Seriously the guy at ford that i spoke to told me that no I Phones, Samsungs, or HTC phones were compatible and couldn't name any that would work. I have also had to use upgrade my ipod nano as that wouldn't work either.

I find that very hard to believe, that's probably more than half the smartphone market there and he's saying none of them are compatible with Sync? As I said my old HTC worked fine. http://www.ford.co.uk/OwnerServices/SYNC-and-Bluetooth-Support/MobileCompatibility/ This should help. I had a quick look and for iPhone 4 it says this: Text message can not be sent via the vehicle system. Text messages cannot be replied to via the vehicle system. So it should be able to read messages at least.
Gary.J
I'll have to inform my Sansung Galaxy S5 that it's doing something your dealer says it can't. Mine works fine with sync. Will show messages on the screen, as well as read them out verbally. Also sends messages back from a small selection that sync offers. MattDRX
Very odd all my old Samsung have always worked, only Nokia have issues as far as I am aware, did you make it known at time of sale you have that phone and want the car for that purpose? Phil 87
At least a phone is a lot easier to replace than a car. Even if the iPhone is on contract you can have it unlocked and sell it, and buy another phone that is known to work better with Sync. nashy
just spoke to dealer again and he is adamant that no I phones are compatible with the text speak facility. Someone's got it wrong somewhere.
