Had New Brake Disks And Pads, Does This Look Right?

Featured Replies

Hi, i've never replaced brake pads/disks before seen as this is only my first car and so I'm not sure if this looks right.

I thought the pads would make good contact with the disks and be flat/flush against the disk but instead they look at an angle and tapered.

Is this normal?

Thats normal. the pads have tapered edges this helps prevent brake squealing

After u need to pump the foot brake to press the pads back in

oh right, surely that compromises the braking power?

It does but they account for that in the design of the brake system in the first place.

right, thanks for your help, much appreciated :)

The taper also keeps constant contact with the disks meaning they stay warm cold brakes dont stop very well

Looks 100% mate.

I did mine a few weeks back. As long as everything is lined up and secured they will bed in after a journey or to just avoid harsh braking to allow for this. One piece of advice I would give is to clamp the brake hose and release the bleed screw when pushing back the piston as sometimes just forcing it back can fluip the seal in the master cylinder and lead to problems.

Great attempt at a first time job.
