Focus 1.6 Zetec Electrical Problem

Featured Replies

Hello all I wonder if any one can shed some light on a problem I'm having, basically I bought the car a few weeks ago took it for a test drive and all was good, got the car home and handed the keys over to the Mrs and then all the trouble started the immobiliser light keeps flashing when she's driving and then giving message acceleration reduced but no eml. So when I got home I plugged the ob2 scanner in and it's coming up with fault p0017 which is saying cam shaft collation sensor bank 1. Now I thought with this fault the eml should be on so I turned the ignition on to see if it flashes up like all vehicles do on start up but it didn't which tells me it's been disabled some how. Could these two problems be linked?

I really appreciate any help as it is now the Mrs daily driver so need to get it fixed ASAP

Thanks Dan

Thanks for the reply mate its all just very frustrating

if it was private you may have an issue the eml light not coming on is an mot fail now the only way that can be deactivated is by covering the light up or removing the bulb so that for one needs fixed the code refers to the crankshaft position sensor which if faulty will cause starting issues until replaced

It has 10 months mot on the car so the previous owner must have known about these faults but he is playing dumb but I'm not convinced

And thanks for the reply

Check to see if there is a bulb in the eml light first as the previous owner could have taken it out or cut power to it for the MOT.

second the code does refer to the crankshaft position sensor sometimes this can mean that its out of time/not synced. For example the crankshaft position sensor waits for a signal from the camshaft sensor to show that all is in time so all can be timed with the injector and the spark sequences there for the car may have issues starting. The only thing connecting the time of these are the timing belt so if its out a few degree it may cause it to throw up this code I have seen this on before on a few cars where the timing had been out a fraction after a belt replacement. I'm not saying it is this but worth a look as even if the belt slipped when driving or even stretched a bit its not impossible but easy to over look it. an alternative is maybe the sensor is just gone but you should normally get other codes along with this of there was anything else.

As the the light this sensor would illuminate it so I would try investigating the cause f that first maybe.

Hope this helps.

When I spoke to the guy I bought it from he did say he had the timing belt changed when the mot was done

The garage probably didn't have a Ford crank locking tool when the belt was done and did it by eye.

Hopefully a crank/cam realignment will help.
