14 Plate Focus Wing Mirror Replacement Parts - Help!

Featured Replies

Some !Removed! has decided to kick my driver side wing mirror and has caused some damage. Im furious.

WHat i need help with is identifying what replacement parts i need.

The colour coded (white) part is still in tact, as is the wiring and the indicator light (functioning)

The black plastic casing part is broken in places and the disk at the back of the glass, and of course the glass.

The wing mirror is still firm and not come loose.

Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the wing mirror to identify which parts i need? also is this something relatively easy to replace myself?

thanks for reading, and hope you can help.

It's a simple enough job replacing the mirror on a mk2/2.5 but can't vouch for the mk3.

As for parts you'll have to replace pretty much the whole assembly unfortunately. The painted scalp, and glass are available on their own plus the repeater lens and puddle lamp if fitted but the body of the mirror is only available as a complete assembly.

There's a fair few different part numbers for the mirror body, unfortunately the site with the info doesn't give more details on this.

If cost is an issue there's good quality parts available on ebay which members here have used.

MK2.5 and 3 mirrors the same

Well I put tinted Mk2.5 indicator lenses on my MK3 no problems

Be brave getting the coloured cover off, takes a firm lever up and back to do it. Easy way to get glass out is a 5mm flat blade screwdriver, Look down in the outer top corner and you will see a small slot where the ring clips to the support, put blade in there and twist and off pops glass with no stress

Handy tip for getting the mirror scalp off - tilt the glass downwards as much as it will go, then if you look inside the mirror at the top there's 2 tangs with slots in them. These clip into the scalp. Use a thin screwdriver or similar and push the tang downwards then gently pull the top edge of scalp away from the housing on that side - same for the other side and the cover pops off a lot easier.

It's amazing what you find in the handbook ;)

Look in the section for replacing the repeater bulbs.

Fortunately I don't need to worry about removing the glass. Its already off and smashed. The colour coded scalp came off in the attack too but looks to be fine. All plastic clips in tact.

How do I get to the bolts that fix the mirror to the car? Does that just pop off or are there hidden fixings?

Im picking up a replacement body and glass from euro car parts tomorrow for about 65 quid which seemed a great price
