1St Oct

Ok important question of the day. Come first oct are you all getting shot of your road tax and cleaning the inevitable marks off your screen?

Im getting shot of mine and looking forward to getting my screen real estate back.

On this....at drivers top side of screen dealer stuck a small square sticker with service due date and mot due date. Seems well stuck on. Any ideas how to get off ? Hairdryer work ?

A hairdryer will certainly warm the adhesive in order to help get it off, I have found that elbow grease and a dab of Nail Polish remover helps remove the remaining residue, but be careful as it stinks and don't want to spill it!

Hair dryer will loosen it up or set the heater on the windscreen max out for 10 mins all windows closed (preferably with you in the car I'd like to see those pics)

Then lift one edge with a sharp tool such as a knife and peel it off.

Buy some turtle wax glass clean from halfords it will clean off the residue with ease and leave an ultra clean smear free glass. that's how I got rid of my dealer stickers and keep my windows clean

Hi, quick ?, if you have already paid for the tax disc in your window, can you legally remove it from 1st October?

Yes you can

Hi again, my wife has just raised the point, if no one has to display a tax disc, how will people like the police know if a driver has not paid his/her car tax for their vehicle?

I belive this will now be recognised via the computer system database in a similar way to insurance

Traffic cops have equipment in the car that can check, other cops only have to make a radio call to run your number plate. ANPR(auto number plate recognition) are plastered all over the place, more so than actual cops. The system MID, insurance database works with cops and insurance so you automatically won't be able to insure without having the needed documents

I'll leave mine in place. New thing in work might be coming in where we have to display a piece of paper to say we work at x building and we can park here (even though its anpr gates). If not i will be removing it asap!

Tbh mine is going tomo when I wash and polish my windscreen, jumping the gun yes!

Since I got the car on the 19th, I haven't had my tax disk on. He gave it me to put on myself so I could decide the position. Also got a piece of paperwork explaining why I haven't got a tax disk (it's in the post, blabla, next car, etc) but got it the day after. Just left it in a secret compartment as it's a papercopy not the normal pull out. I've never had an issue. As police read the registration plates for tax, etc, they've been unaware of the lack of disk. They don't tend to be able to notice if I have it or not as the time it takes to fly by is very low. Been parked up all over the place (on 900 miles so far) and they've not said a word. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're a rebel, haha.

Two Corsa's, definately a rebel ;-)

Only Joking

So am I right in saying on 1st October I can remove my tax disc legally?

Yep, you are. I checked it on the DVLA site last night.

Yes mine will be removed on Wendesday :). I got one of those self adhesive tax disc holders so hopefully it won't leave much of a mark.

I have a nice Ford chrome tax disk holder, admittedly brought over from my ZS, kooks nice though.

I think we should look into creating a printable club logo that fits into the tax disc holders so they will still be of some use.

That's a good idea

Give this a crack and see what you think.

Probably best printed on photo paper at best quality.

Image should scale to 3 inches in diameter.

Nice, though mine is still coming off lol.

You'll get asked to do them in matching car colours probably.

Bought a new tax disc holder when we bought the car last year, paid about £15 quid for it , looks nice all chrome and carbon fiber from Wednesday it'll be totally useless.

Not sure if I'm the only one happy to be shot of it. I do wonder if this might result in a lot more cloaned plates though.

I'm happy about it too, so I can have nothing on the windscreen, although a dash cam will be added soon. I don't know about cloned plates though, the police have relied on ANPR for years so I guess not much will change.

This is what is going to replace my tax disc for a while, as I for one will be mourning the passing of the humble tax disc. It was always good to get a piece of paper for the £100+ paid to the Government. post-58340-14120760037_thumb.jpg
