Ford Ids Help

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Focus went in for a PCM update due to an injector issue which a TSB states updating the PCM to a later revision should fix.

The service guy handed me a printout form IDS showing there was an update with a yes/no button at the bottom. In the middle of the screen it showed a version and file name however the version showed was the version in the TSB it states to update from.

Can anyone confirm whether this screen grab is showing the version you are on and that there is an update or whether this is the version they are about to update to?

Cheers

Allister

Hey Guys,

Well I eventually managed to find out. It appears the one on the printout is the version they put on my car. This is really annoying as the bulletin was released in 2012 and the one the loaded is the one Ford state to update away from.

I asked why it wouldn't have picked up the newer one and they said they cant pick and choose which it just picks automatically. After 10 minutes of moaning to the service department they agreed to call Ford technical support....

They called back today and explained they only reason it wouldn't have picked the newer one would be if the car has stored error codes relating to the injectors.

The car has already been in for diagnosis so I would have expected them to clear them and the issue hasn't come back since so would find it hard to believe there are new codes if there was any.

They have said ford tech support advised there is a way to try force it so I have now booked it in again this Monday morning to be updated again if they can. I would have thought it would prompt or alert if there were error codes prior to trying to update the ecu or why wouldn't they check.

Really losing faith in ford and this dealership.

From memory to force a PCM update you have to try and connect to the car twice with the ignition off, when it fails to connect you can then enter the vin and or tear tag number and answer a few questions and select the firmware update file manually then update it that way. That's how I fixed mine when I somehow screwed mine up and caused some error codes after a PCM update. That is as best as I can remember the process.
