How Low Does It Go?

Featured Replies

btw it probably still got fuel in it at 0 miles because of the reserve tank (all cars have it) some smaller than others so if any of you get to 0 miles when you fill it to the top let us know how many litres can fit. my last car i had it at zero once and didn't notice till i got in the house! i took it to nearest garage which is roughly half a mile or more then filled up a cant remember how many litres a put in but it was something like just under 3 litres over which the tank would fill too (also filling the tube too as well as reserve tank)

so to recap the fiesta has a 42 litre fuel tank
and lets see how many litres it actually holds including reserve tank and tube :D

  • I'll beat that mate ;) give me a few days

  • When I bought my current car the fuel range read 10 miles. By the time I got it to the nearest garage it was on 3 miles. I try to never run below 1/4 tank if I can help it.

  • Running low and picking up rubbish from the bottom of the tank is a myth...the pickup is always at the bottom anyway lol... And there's a gauze followed by a paper filter after the pickup, so you won

I thought the reserve was essentially what you were running on with light on.

Naw as far as a know bud when light cums on its just it's just it's estimate on how much fuel in main tank

Lowest ive gone is 10 , I don't like to go empty as there's a chance of picking !Removed! up from the bottom isn't there ?

Anyone here ran out ?

As I said in one if my earlier replys, I got down to 0 on the m'way with about 2 miles to go until I got home.

The next morning I drove to the fuel station and filled up and I think I had put in about 43.7 litres before it auto cut-off.

I don't recommend doing this though.

So roughly it's 1.7litres extra

The 1.0 has a 42 litre tank plus the filler tube. I always run down to 0 and fill up with 40 / 41 litres afterwards ;)

i know bud but what were trying to find out is how many litres over the 42 litres and there is a guy on here that filled 1.7litres more than the 42 that must include tube and small reserve

There's no reserve. It's whatever the tank size is plus the filler tube.

Running low and picking up rubbish from the bottom of the tank is a myth...the pickup is always at the bottom anyway lol... And there's a gauze followed by a paper filter after the pickup, so you wont end up with leaves in the injectors. ;) The 'reserve tank' is also a myth on (most) road cars. Its just called reserve when you're on the red light...

The problem with running out (more so on a diesel) is having to prime the fuel system again afterwards. Especially on Fords as they seem to be a pain to prime even after a fuel filter change!

The ST tank is 48 litres BTW ;)

I'll be filling when I hit the red or light comes on ( cash permitting of course) I'm not running down to zero if I can help it.....but nice to know it goes that low.

Some could see it being a stupid question but brought up some interesting chat

Thanks guys for tolerating our little queries.

I knew bout the myth that getting crap from bottom but didn't know cars didn't have a reserve rank (last time a listen to my dad lol ) but did guess there wasn't n was just extra in the pipe lol ma last fiesta when fully filled plus tube would be on a full tank from Glasgow to Sheffield then it started dropping! Haha a thought my gauge was broken because it took so long lol

I believe in years gone by that there was an actual "reserve tank". May not have been fitted to all cars - but maybe prevalent enough to carry on - a bit like cars only having a "fan belt"

The driver would manually have to swap feeds from one tank to the other

I'll beat that mate ;) give me a few days

Bring it mate! Don't break down though ;)

I'll get you a picture of it reading 0 whilst moving don't you worry :p

On my old zetec I realised it got to 0 a bit too late, pulled up to the nearest petrol station which was shut... As someone said above.

I then had to make a 15 mile journey to the next, seemed fine all the way there and for as long as I kept it! Probably didn't do it any good though.

The ST tank is 48 litres BTW ;)

Ahh thanks for that, Parker's was saying it was 42L, but when I filled up and it took over 46 litres, I knew that was rubbish

My light came on last at 42 miles to go. I've been on 0 before in my last Fiesta and did about 14 miles.

As promised :p

Man yous are mental. I was in a panic last night when mine got to 30. I caved and hit the nearest garage.

Ps. You know you get an audio chime around 49-50? Do you get a further one when it gets lower ? Or does it just rechime if you start back up again?

Mine chimed at 50 but I stopped to visit someone at around 38 or so. When I left them I got another chime for something as I drove off.
