Turbo Condition

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

While I had the airbox removed to access the reverse switch, thought it'd be a good idea to check the condition of the turbo knowing they are prone to failure in the DV6 engine. Kinda wish I hadn't as I'm not sure if this is a normal amount of play or not. Cars done just under 50k miles, full dealer history so I hope it's ok! The video's aren't the best but hopefully they'll do.

And a still

Just want to know if that's normal really!

Cheers

to be honest that looks like a relatively OK movement as far as I can see?

Thanks, that was the answer given on the other forum I posted on as well. Didn't realise there will be some movement with the engine off as the turbo shaft will 'float' on oil with the engine running.

I also checked a spare old non-VNT GT15 I had from a 2.0 HDi which has similar movement so think it's fine, I just panicked a bit lol, my bad.

Yeah its normal, relatively so anyway. If it was too fixed it would reduce longevity of the turbo.
