Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

Do many of you carry a spare wheel or just stick with repair kit ?

I have a space saver, would prefer a full size but it will do. A repair kit is not as versatile as a spare wheel.

I'm going to buy a spare wheel kit as soon as poss.

I learned THAT lesson when I had a tyre blew out and I spent half an hour looking at the (closed) shops in Amersham while I waited for the AA and then he and I had to drive halfway round Bucks trying to find a tyre place that's open on a Sunday...

I think I might eventually get myself a spare wheel/tyre

I bought a full size spare (15') as soon as I bought my mk7 back in 2012 & it is now going in my next fez.

I got mine from fordpartsuk.com - 15' rim, jack, wheel brace

Tool holder & wheel retaining bolt separately

Tyre from local tyre centre.

Me too eventually :)

I bought a spare wheel kit off Ebay. so ive got that and the inflator kit. just about fits in the well :)

As other members have already said, if you are unlucky enough to have a tyre blow out, the repair kit is useless.

When buying new, I always check if my new car comes with a repair kit as standard and, if so, I've always spec'd a spare tyre in my options.

I have a space saver spare wheel (£25 ebay) as well as the inflation kit. It is good advice to specify a spare when ordering a new Fez. However, you cannot spec a spare wheel if you also want a detachable tow bar.

The great advantage is that with a spare wheel your punctured tyre might be capable of repair. If you use the kit most tyre dealers will not repair it and you are stuck with new tyre as well as cost of replacement kit. If the kit is unsuited for the puncture or does not work then you are stranded.

In a growing number of circumstances one would call a breakdown organisation to get you on your way rather than do it yourself.

How much is a replacement repair kit as hadn't thought of that ?

Fordpartsuk.com list it as £31.33 exc VAT + delivery . So nearly the cost of a new budget tyre.

Always best to have a spare wheel, space saver less so over full size...

Ill probably end up getting a wheel though was forgetting I'd also need a jack and brace

I bought a spare wheel complete with jack and brace for 60 quid off Ebay.. That included delivery.. There are nearly always plenty of them kicking around..

I got a spare and jack off eBay soon after I bought my Fiesta. Had an alloy buckle in a previous car and no spare.. Not good.

Do you guys have a choice? all our cars come with either a space saver or full size tire, I think it must be because of the distance between towns here, depending were you live of course you wouldn't want to be stuck next to the road were the closest town could be 300km away. not to mention the safety aspect if the wife/girlfriend get stuck next to the highway.

No choice here Jeff but I bet your right on why you have tyres still. Mist new cars these days just get the repair foam junk, spare wheels are often chargeable and space savers, rarely do you get a family car with a full size spare alloy....
