Fuel Theft?

Featured Replies

In regards to the locking flap, my early 09 focus (58 plate) doesn't lock yet my brother's 59 plate Mondeo does. Was it a case of Ford dropping it on the 'lesser' models first? Both are Zetec spec.

i reckon its a case of dropping it on what was made after a certain date i reckon,,, could be the Mondie's order book was well in advance maybe ?

The anti-syphon valve will not allow any pipes large enough to drain fuel out of the tank (such as the traditionally used hosepipe) but will allow a pipe of the size used by Customs or Police Traffic Officers to test for the unlawful use of agricultural diesel.

When testing for this only a couple of hundred millilitres are drawn (just enough to acertain colour) and the pipe is too thin to cause the suction necessary to drain mass volumes of fuel and definitely not enough to make it a worthwhile means of fuel theft.

Lol.... 3 hours later.....

Aww, suppose I'll have to keep buying fuel then. :whistling:

But seriously, that makes sense, it's safer than I was thinking! :)

Ford do sell a lockable fuel cap for easyfuel cars but not in the European market.

I've seen them on American parts sites but no way to do international purchases.

Tbh it's probably only because Americans are paranoid of everything and everyone and it's mainly for a placebo effect.

Stoney always comes up with the best answers!

Thanks for clearing that up

hi,,, some info here as regarding anti syphoning ,,

http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/car-tech/1292344/ford-easy-fuel-anti-theft-system-announced

so according to this,,, the filler opening is locked when the car is locked,,, im taking they do not mean the plastic flap but the new steel cover on the opening.

also this bit about the emitions that i mentioned in a previous post. ,,, i think this is why you cant just shove a pipe down the ford plastic re filler thingy :)

"The flap is joined by a refuelling vapour recovery system, originally
designed to prevent fuel loss through vapour escape during refuelling
but equally capable of preventing syphoning as it detects the pressure
of liquid fuel passing through the system."

so all in all it seems a lot safer than the older version,,,, what you think ??

Definitely nothing that locks on my fuel cap as I always fill up with the car double locked.

i have not tried it as i dont lock my car while in a garage refuling,,, dont know why not really as i probably should.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow with the plastic funnel thingy and see if mine does as well Alex.

Hey so coincidentally I stumbled upon this because someone screwed with my easy filler and it now looks like this https://images.app.goo.gl/5MemiRu4rak7pD988 when it used to look like this https://images.app.goo.gl/Pz73JmaJDRag5Hr37. How do I fix it by myself or do I have to go to a dealer?
