Hi,

Copied all my music and plays in ST fine 'My dads anyway' but itunes seems to copy the number onto the track name when I put it on the memory stick is there a way to get rid of it without doing it one by one ?

Thanks

Have a look on Google for some mp3 tag editors. Some of them you can configure to run through them all and change the tags for you

How do you use that programme then is it a case of putting music on that then on the memory stick ?

Yeah just install it then right click on the folder with your music and select MP3Tag. This will load the software up and you can name each track and click save. :)

If you give them a title it will stop that. Sync uses the filename if there isn't any tag data (eg. titles, artist etc)

All my songs have a title and artist but it's put a number in front of the title

I prefer Tag&Rename, although not free.

It's odd that iTunes puts track numbers on your files, mine doesn't.

If you go into iTunes, right click on a track and press get info...

It should bring up all info.. Track name, artist, album, genre.

Even though iTunes might not display the numbers in the main window it could be a case that it's been hidden somewhere *sneaky apple* this happened on my old iPod and I'm pretty sure I found it there.

All you have to do is then cycle through the tracks clicking next and getting rid of those numbers, hopefully you don't have a 200 track playlist mind :P

The track numbers are handy for keeping the tracks in order of play.

It only adds them when i transfer to my memory stick ?

Actually thinking about it, iTunes will put the track number in the file name but not the track name.

When selecting music in the car do you browse the folder structure or do you browse through artist? If browsing through the folders it will show the track number as it is displaying the file name rather than the track name/mp3 tag name (I think), if browsing through artist it shouldn't.

This is all dependant on your mp3 files having correct mp3 tags. In iTunes right click one if your songs and select 'Get info'. You should see all the tags that the track has, whatever is in the track name is what should be displayed in the car.

Don't get rid of the track numbers!

Your tracks will never play in order then!

This isn't an Apple thing, it's standard for all mp3 files. They all have 'tags' for artist, song title, track number etc.

Ahaha !Removed! yeah my bad, I did actually mean what youd said above... Apple arranges stuff fairly well

They have compilation/album numbers x of x that I wouldn't advise touching but like you said if there's.a number in the tags get rid!

I didn't know you you browse though the folder structure in Sync, how do you do that?
