Dash Cam Mounting - Mk2/2.5 Focus

Featured Replies

So, I've been looking at these passively for a while, but after seeing quite a few reasons to get one lately (Jeeb's crash for one!) and with the winter weather coming in soon decided now is the right time to get one!

Problem is I'm pretty fussy about a clear windscreen, and don't really want to see a dashcam from sitting in the drivers seat at all if possible! Ideally I'd like a remote lense, but it looks like that would be pretty expensive and I'm on a fairly tight budget.

So the idea of this thread is to see how/where yours are mounted in the Focus, preferably a picture from your perspective in the drivers seat! And maybe from outside as well?

Any recommendations of small/discrete ones would also be appreciated. I know the Mobius seems like a favourite on here but are they any others you'd recommend? Maybe one with an LCD screen?

Cheers

Tom

the 2CH Panorama X2 looks very good from the vids, front and rear 1080p cams

you can see the development thread here https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/threads/2ch-panorama-x2-fullhd-fullhd-256gb-sony-exmor-cmos-wdr-gps-24-7-parking-mode-rec.6774/page-20

very tempted but still on the look out for a more discrete 1080p front and rear that connects to a separate control box hidden out of sight, guy who made the x2 is designing such a thing just now, there are some good ideas for mounting on there too

I've a varient of the F70 dual-cam. Similar to Jeebs i1000, but it has the more reliable chipset

Size wise: if you squared off a credit card, you're not far off. It tucks quite nicely up top, as does the wiring. It's barely noticeable from the outside, and only catches the eye of passengers when it turns on or off.

All in, my setup was about £40 (camera for £36 and about £2 each for piggy back fuse holder and 12v-5v USB adapter)

Thanks guys, though I'm looking for front only really, don't think the rear would be of any use with factory tints.

Still can't decide though lol, seems to be loads about, all with different pro's and con's! Though one that stands out is the 0803 Mini (or the predecessor 0801), very small and fairly cheap with decent spec. Anyone got one of those?

Have also seen the thread about hard-wiring with a piggyback fuse which looks like a good idea. :)

Ive searched for days mate and im defo going for this one:

Like you i dont want the world to seemy dash cam,

Im mounting the DVR inside the roof of the glovebox,

So open glovebox door and flip down the dvr,

It comes with two small cameras but only need to use one if that's all you want to use,

As discreet as possible.

With the evidence on memory storage safely hidden away from access

Hi. I have one of the following. It fits neatly behind the mirror and then I have fed the wire above the roof lining and into the glove box. I then wired in a cigarette lighter in the glove box. I The sucker I placed in the hashed area of the windscreen. From in the car you can hardly see it and from outside too it isn't really obvious. If I want to view anything I simply remove it or slide the mirror off to view.

any one with a gs8000l how are you getting on with yours ? my first one seemed ok but i pluged it into wrong power connecter and blew it.bought another one and it didnt like cheap sd cards so had to buy a samsung one.but now it seems to switch of while driving every now and then.

That's the idea I'm looking for but I'm not so keen that its not even 720p let alone 1080. Its listed as HD but that's not what it records from its description.

Clive, out of curiosity - roughly how much do the Police cameras cost?

With the storage systems and software licencing about £3000 per unit.

Absolute bargain of a price :D

Plus they break down alot,

Especially at times when the accused falls over and injures himself ;)

I got one like this-

4" screen and full HD.

The extra mirror size is useful too as you get a wider view and less blind spots.

I had one of these before and it was a good idea. However I found that I couldn't see clearly enough out of the mirror as it rattled and vibrated a lot. It also rattled on the video and sometimes couldn't even hear anything it has recorded. If you can stop that though it is a good idea. Plus if you have blocked out windows you can see barely anything out of it at night.

I've got the auto-dim mirror so I'd like to keep that feature tbh. :)

Suppose we as men can no longer complain about women being picky when shopping for cloths,

Were exactly the same when it comes to dash cameras

Not just dash cams, I'm fussy about a lot of things...probably doesn't help that I have OCD lol.

Not fussed by clothes though, £4 jeans from Tesco ftw haha.

Lol, glad it's not just me then!!

Especially everything looking factory with no visible cables etc...no-one else ever seems bothered by that! :D

It gets to me so much I couldn't even have a boost gauge on display in my modified Golf...overboosted and blew a turbo, oops.

Ive fitted st pod in mine with custom gauges to appear stock,

Last week created an MDF cavity wall for rear of the back seat so the cables are not visible,

Plan to mount amp on panel run cables straight through from amp to cavity,

No wires in sight,

Sorry for off topic now.

Reading this and I'm shocked how cheap these installs are. I always thought the camera alone would run you about £100! £40 for a whole install is good enough for me to consider a dash cam more seriously.

Ah that's a good idea with the ST gauges tbh! I'm not really fussed about subs etc these days but used to go to effort to keep all the audio wires hidden as well lol.

Yep, not overly expensive, £50 seems to get a decent setup. And that's not much considering how helpful it could be in an accident!

At least our dashcams serve more of a purpose than clothes...

(I know there's at least one naked joke to be had here...)
