What Is This Sensor Please And What Condition Is It In?

Featured Replies

In relation to my ongoing problem here: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/62819-egr-ecu-oh-man-the-stress-just-continues/#entry419976

I am currently attempting to remove and check my intercooler pipes. I have just taken the following sensor out of the intercooler pipe and need to know from you wonderful people asap

1) What is that sensor?

2) Does it look as unhealthy as I think it does?

3) If so, do I replace it or clean it?

4) The main intercooler pipe (the 90 degree thick one in this pic) is quite heavily soiled on the outside with, I'm not sure, soot? Oil? Should it be this dirty and if not is that a sign of a leak somewhere?

Thank you in advance for the help that you guys are sure to bring :)

Not sure which on it is but all you need to clean it off is carb clean you'll see the difference .

Thanks guys, I cleaned the sensor but it hasn't fixed the problem (Never expected it would but worth cleaning anyway!)

Like i said before you need to take off that 90 degree bend pipe and have a good inspection. the fact that its covered in oil is a pretty good sign that it has a split and needs replacing.

Ah right thanks James, I did have a reaaaaallllly good check of the 90 degree pipe and couldn't see a split but it was pretty filthy, just that one, the next pipe (the long straight metal one) is clean and dry. So would you recommend just throwing a new 90 degree bend in there then? Are the holes/ splits sometimes small enough to be impossible to see but still cause problems?

Oh and sorry for any confusion caused but I've updated my other thread with a couple of pics and a video here:
