Mk7.5 Bulb Help

Featured Replies

question how do you replace footwell bulb? Asin do you twist it out or pull it out and can I remove it while the light is still on when the door is open because I can't get down to it otherwise so my door must be open so the light is on and also the main interior light at top of your head how do I go around replacing that size of led bulb? And do i twist or pull rather ask then go ahead and brake something cheers inadvance :)

Just pull out the bulb mate there w5w / 501 wedge type bulbs

Yes they pull straight out but can be quite stiff. It's best to let them cool down for a while first because they get very hot, but apart from that there's no problem pulling them out when they're on.

Would you be able to change this bulb to a coloured red type like they have in ambiant lighting.

Mick G.

Of course just use an LED, search for "w5w LED red" in ebay

Yes, 501 fitment LEDs come in various colours.

Thank you much appreciated.

So the footwell light is safe to pull out while the light is still on? Door needs to be open to get to it you see

and the interior light at top of your head that comes on I've heard a lot of people with problems with changing it as anyone done it them selfs on here? I'm looking to change all my interior lights blue so since car is candy blue

Yes pull out with door open but be quick as gets hot. Be careful when buying your footwell led bulb. Check it says it has at least 5 smds on it. First one I bought had one and created simply a spotlight on the floor. I bought one with 5 and it looks just right. You can get ones with 9, but probably overkill.

Yeah don't worry about replacing the bulb when it's on, it's only 12V and 5W so that's not a problem.

Right cheers iv made same mistake as you one iv ordered as only got one lol but it will be fine as I have got led strips at bottom near the footwell light to its I just can see orange or yellow whatever colour it is standard and its starting to annoy me

So main light at top of your head that comes on when you open door anyone got a link to eBay for right bulb for that?

Festoon bulb is correct but is it 38mm? Can't remember myself, probably best to measure the one that's in unless someone has measurement to hand.

38mm is right.

Cheers Mark I thought it was. Memory still works despite my age!

I was thinking about replacing them all with blue tinted halogens as an alternative to white LEDs, something like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Xenon-White-T10-501-W5W-Sidelight-Bulbs-UK-/111259038615?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19e78e3397

But has anyone seen a festoon bulb similar to these? Can't seem to find one on ebay. Also I noticed the lights dim when they turn off, instead of turning off instantly - do you lose that effect with LEDs? I would think it might cause them to flicker a bit, or do they just turn off instantly?

My main bulb at top off your head int a festoon bulb it's a w5w but I can't fit any with more then 1 led in it doesn't work can anyone help

Does the ZS have 2 roof lights? 1 above the rear view mirror and 1 in the centre of the roof which you say is by your head? As the light in my ST above the mirror uses a 38mm festoon.

The light in the centre of the roof, I used a 501 fitment 5 smd led similar to this;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151153642704

You can get them with more smd's fitted.

Yeah one next to the mirror and one for like back seats and the one near the mirror for me is well looks like a w5w it's defrosting not a festoon 38mm even tho I have orderd one of them but I took case off yesterday and its 3 w5w bulbs but the two on the sides I can't get my fingers in to pull out and the main middle wont work when I put a led so confused haha

I know nothing about bulbs do w5w bulbs have different sizes or? Haha

If you have an ST is a festoon bulb and W5W / 501 bulb

If your have anything else it's all W5W / 501 bulbs

It does show 3 501 bulbs in the handbook but most fiestas have a festoon.

LEDs are polarity sensitive so will only work if plugged in the correct way round, pull it out and turn it 180 degrees and refit, the map lights are tight, either use both index fingers or if possible a pair of long nose pliers but grip the bulb gentle

W5W (501) is a size of fitting so they will all be a similar fitting but part that lights up could be bigger depending on how many, LEDs or on it.

Only the ST has festoons mark. Mine doesn't :p

Ah, fair enough. That is the light in the handbook, maybe the festoon is used to free up space for the alarm sensors and submarine lights.
