Bought New Coil Pack But Still Losing Fuel

Featured Replies

I needed a new coil pack for my fiesta 1.4 zetec . Anyway even after fitting it my car judders a bit and i notice 1 bar of fuel vanishes from the fuel gauge, Any ideas of what it could be please ?

thanks

Glynn

When you say losing fuel, do you mean a physical leak or just poor MPG ? When was the car last serviced ?

Poor mpg , when I put fuel in 2 nights ago and it went up 4 bars on the gauge , I only drove to work this morn and one whole bar vanished , it didn't even go to half . The engine management light doesnt even come on

Thanks

Glynn

Oh , it was serviced last year but I havnt done too many miles in it

Analogue bars have never been the best, my old Astra used to wobble about just when braking and accelerating. fill the car to the top and see how many miles you get, if you get around 350 miles on a tank you're doing fine, it could just be the gauge having an issue and being worn out.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered a new coil pack and leads , cheers

What is your actual mpg?

I'm not sure , my mate put on scanner on it today and it stated cylinder 4 was Misfiring . Just hope it's not the ECU .

Yep, ECUs are a ripoff. Because they make thousands they must cost peanuts but to you and me, an arm and leg.

I had a problem on my 1.4 flame with the coil pack was only running on 2 cylinders struggled turning over and staying idle and turned out it was a faulty ecu cost me 180 quid to get it repaired and runs fine now

why not just take an ECU from the same car at a breakers?

Also HT leads will cause misfiring as they corrode, given the car is 11 years old it's highly likely over an ecu.

Replaced ht leads coil pack n plugs still didn't solve problem took it too family friend who's a mechanic and he had it a day and come back with its the ECU took it to a place in Derby who repairs them pretty cheap I think

the mechanic reckons its deffo the coil pack , soon find out tonight . cheers

you can sometimes find out if it's the leads just by wiggling them about when it's running, or have a circuit tester on them, no voltage going through simply says they are broken.
