Speedometer Intermittent Fault

Featured Replies

The speedometer on my 2001 fiesta sometimes does not work and will come back to Life without any intervention can anyone give advice on how cure or where to start looking

It is most likely a faulty speedo sensor (VSS).

I believe your car uses the same sensor as on a mk1/1.5 Focus which is known for failure.

Hi

It is 100% vss sensor. Had this with my mk1 focus. Dropping speed on gauge to zero at no reason. Was happening for few weeks at random. Then suddenly had situation engine got cut off, lost steering etc. Safely enough was on country road so could brake with hand break.

Just replace vss and you will be fine. Part is cheap and takes for mechanic 30 mns top to replace. Don't delay with this, my good advice :)

I had this issue in my old Fiesta, replacing the sensor in the gearbox sorted it! (probably the same as what is mentioned above, I don't know the technical term though)
