Wheel Locking Nuts/water Cap.

Featured Replies

Just been looking round the car as you do to try and find thing to do or i dont like, had car a week.

First thing is the locking nuts are like rust, yes a nice bad rust color and was thinking of getting some more, are ford the best and what size socket are they.

The other thing is i was looking at the engine bay to check stuff but cant get water cap off,it moves

a bit but goes solid,do these just screw off as normal or is there some other way like press down/turn.

Just looked at another thread on here ,seems a few have this problem,so pair of grips.

Cheers ( sorry for putting a few threads on at the moment)

I'd go for McGard aftermarket locking nuts - similar to the Ford ones but a lot more key combinations. The locking key will be 19mm hex, just the same as your standard nuts.

The cap on the coolant tank can be very stiff to remove, I think this is by design so that if you do try and remove it while the coolant is hot you get a gradual release in pressure instead of the whole lot coming out in 1 go.

Cheers m8,popping up ford to get a price on the locking nuts.

Got the cap off and put a very small amount of grease just around the cap and seems better,so dam hard, had

to use grips to get anywhere with it.

The OEM locking nuts are McGard High Security locking nuts. Check Halfords too - especially if you have a magic card :D

McGard regular locking nuts don't have the spinning collar and werr about £35. I can't remember what Ford wanted, but the price was stupidly high compared to Halfords

Got one off at a time and wire brushed them and a small amout of grease in the thread but all fine.

Just the outer part a bit rusty, the rim of them still turns.

Just found out that the cover is the wheel nut so you just put the 19mm socket over the

nut/cover and that's it lol. never knew that.

Just covers for the locking nuts then.

What is the torque setting on the locking nuts, gives 110nb on wheel nuts but thought locking

nuts dont need the same as the normal ones.

Just found a SP 200 sykes-pickavant torque wrench in the shed, what are these like if any on here knows, its new.
