StripeyMiata
It was just nicer to drive going up the gears, hard to explain until you've actually driven the two, but you can certainly notice the difference. Not that I'm biased against 5 speed boxes, my 1991 MX5's gearbox is still superb and beats a lot of modern cars even after all these years. Edit: I've just noticed my Facebook pic is my avitar, that's awkward :D Jonathan
MattDRX
Yes I have driven one, as said earlier one for 6000+miles and I got rid of it for the ST. I thought it struggled quite a bit tbh.
alexp999
Not driven it in the Fiesta, but really impressed with it in the Focus. I know the 5 speed box has quite long gears for economy, but given the official performance figures for the Fiesta would have thought the weight would make up for it... Willy
Done 20000 in mine and has no problems going up hills, may have something to do with the 214nm of torque ;) I'm now getting 40ish mpg with a remap and don't drive economically :p

Willy
I use fuel log on my phone and haven't noticed any difference. You will find the your mpg goes down as it gets colder.

potter18
What fuel are you using? I find my fiesta ( 10l ecoboost ) runs better on Shell regular unleaded , mpg usually improves after 1000miles or so , last summer we holidayed on the south coast 53 mpg going 59.3 on way back , I tend to hold onto 3rd gear at 30mph around town , mpg around 45_48 although it drops a bit in winter
b1g_dav3
I had one for 2 days when my car was at Ford and could hit 59mpg average according to the computer, so it can be done for sure. I can get an ST to those figures without too much effort too, usually around 52 - 55 with just day-to-day.
Mental_Atom
I've had my Fiesta ZS 2 weeks now, averaging 41.1 MPG on ~20 mile each way commute each day. Mostly 60mph country roads/dual carraigeway but a little bit of town driving and an infuriating 20mph 10-speed-bump stretch... So I'm not sure why yours would be so low, I'm not exactly trying to drive economically (although ecomode would disagree). I'm expecting it to rise gradually, I have the fuelio app on my phone but I've only filed up once so far so no reading off that.
Phil 87
Is that something specific to these new breed of small turboed engines? The last 2 brand new cars I owned (VW PD Diesel engine and Focus ST 5Cly) started off at 34MPG and 25MPG when brand new and never really budged. I've found it's the same with my ST, averaged about 37 mpg from the start, but had up to 48 on a long motorway trip.
StripeyMiata
Nice to see some of you in the 50's, does fill me with hope :) As for fuel, I've been using Tesco, before you all have a go to me I thought it was BP so OK? Or is that Sainsburys? The problem is that I live in Northern Ireland, Shell pulled out a few years ago, the only real well known brands are BP & Texaco, the rest are small Irish companies like Maxol or Topaz. I read somewhere last night that the engine gives another 3 or 4 MPG on BP Super unleaded, I have to drive next month from Belfast to Dublin and back which is all duel carriageway and motorways. I'll fill it up with BP Super unleaded and see what it does, should be an interesting experiment. Jonathan
bensambrook
Had mine for 4 weeks now and nearly 1000 miles and I'm averaging 43.5 on the trip but inputing figures in to an app on my phone it's actually 42.5, similar to my previous car (E46 320D) but obviously petrol is a bit cheaper than diesel so I'm about £10 better off a month compared to that. My MPG in the Ecoboost can rise easily on a long run at 70mph but my day to day run, around 20 miles is on lots of mixed roads and hills so it has pretty much risen to 43.5 on the trip and not moved since getting the car. I think trip computer averages can be hard to shift sometimes, mine has said 41 ever since I got the car. Should probably reset it at some point :) Having said that, 41 MPG as it's getting as cold as it is isn't bad at all!
Toneriko
I get 45.1 MPG (23 MPH average speed) in my four month old Fiesta Titanium X Ecoboost but I'm mainly stop/starting behind school-run mums for most of my daily journey so I'm pretty damn happy with that! I'd definitely wait until you've done a few thousand miles and then reset the trip computer so that your averages aren't using the data from the 'bedding in' phase... winemart2
I don't think it suits that engine though, the gear ratios feel wrong to me, especially 2nd gear were the engine bogs down unless you have a lot of revs. With my previous and other car you can coast along in second with no problem throttle off, do that in this car and it will stall. Jonathan Absolutely agree. I need to learn to drive it. In previous car I used 1st just to get rolling then 2nd was fine. If I drive like that with the Tit, 2nd is a 4 letter word starting with c and ending with p.
Bluegrey
I have a new fiesta ST line x , the fuel economy is crap I have yet to get more than 36mpg, I wouldn’t mind but I purchased this car to save on fuel costs and it is so slow! I prefer my old fiesta 1.4 which I still use.
HandsomeStan
We recently replaced a mk7.5 1.6 zetec s diesel with a mk8 1.0 140 ST-line x, we knew the mileage wouldn’t be as good but it’s so much worse than expected or rather than Ford states.... probably has a little to do with how much more fun it is to drive though 😁 other than the mpg I have to say I’m blown away with the performance of this engine though, fantastic car. statts
Hi I am in the same position. My car is an ecoboost 125 and i have been disappointed with the fuel economy. When i first got it according to the computer I was averaging 31-32mpg now that i have reset it I am averaging 35-36mpg. Apart from the fuel economy i like the car!!!! I also think that my 2 mile commute to work and back is the reason I am not getting better figures. To put it in perspective a friend of mine used to own a kuga 1.5 ecoboost 182 awd and that was only averaging 26.4mpg when official figures were about 35-36mpg. He didn't use the car very often but he liked it apart from the economy. Hope this helps

I've got a 2019 ST-Line X 140, not as economical as the Mk7.5 140 I had before but it seems pretty easy to get about 45mpg just driving normally. I'm currently averaging about 47mpg which will probably go over 50mpg if the weather ever warms up this year. Jeez what's she doing? Must be taking it to the red line in each gear and driving with the handbrake on to get that low. Or maybe sitting stationary for long periods with the engine running? Can't you show her how to get 45's would save you a lot of cash?

Bought a brand new Ford Fiesta Titanium X 125PS Ecoboost Start/Stop a few weeks ago, as a car I'm totally delighted with it, comfortable, well built, handles well and the engine is great. But the MPG, well it's terrible. And I'm not using the computer, working it out myself with Fuelly. Yes, I get the "well it depends on driving route/style" thing, but I'm the same driver doing the same commute I have been doing for the last 10 years. Last car I had (1.4 Petrol) was officially rated at 42MPG, I averaged 37MPG. Previous car was also rated at 42MPG coincidently , it was a 2,0 Diesel and it averaged 33MPG. I'm currently getting 35MPG, which would be fine if the car was rated at 42MPG but as you probably know the car is rated at 65MPG, to me this seems very wrong. Especially if you take into picture none of previous cars had stop/start. Heck I used my 1991 Mazda MX5 for a week and did 29MPG. Is something wrong or are the Ford figures a load of crap?
