2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Tdci Power Loss And Cuts Out Randomly

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had my 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi for two weeks now and it is having a strange loss of power followed by a cut out issue.

The mileage is 85,000.

So I was driving fine for a few days on motorways and normal roads but then one day after an hour of motorway driving, I exited off to a round about, then when I accelerated in gear 1, I got hardly any power (thought I was in gear 3 but wasn't), I tried going up a hill and it slow decelerated (power loss was for about 30 seconds) and then the engine cut out, then I tried starting it up and it cuts out immediately, after about 5-10 minutes and a number of start up attempts it ran like nothing was wrong.

It drove perfect for another week and then it happened again, this time I was driving on a dual carriage way and it lost power for 30 seconds again and cut out, after half an hour of trying to start it up with no luck, then I tried starting it in gear one, the car moved forwards of course and cuts out, I tried 5 times so the car had moved enough to a position facing uphill and it started again and it ran perfect.

I'm not a mechanic but I decided to see if it could be the engine not getting enough fuel because of the fuel pump, injectors, etc so I made the car work really hard (4000 revs on the motorway for 15-20 minutes) and it had no problems.

There are no warning lights when this happens and also worth mentioning the fuel gauge has an issue, it has a full fuel tank at the moment but the gauge changes its mind to what ever it wants every couple of seconds from 200 miles to empty to 10 miles, etc.

I went to Halfords and they advised me to clean the EGR valve which I haven't done yet but I'm not sure if it could be this.

Anyone heard of similar issues or have any ideas would be really appreciated!

Hope its enough information.

Thanks,

Shivan
