Mk6 Fiesta 1.25 Engine Conversion

Featured Replies

In need of help!

I have a Mk6 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec, I have spent around £6,000 so far on the car on almost everything, except the engine....

I am now looking for an engine conversion and need some advice...real advice,

I have a budget for all the parts of £1000,

I can do a simple engine conversion, therefore I want this conversion to be as swift and as simple as possible, I have already had a quick look at a 1.7 puma engine (not too sure how simple this would be in a mk6, and the duratec ST engine)

Ideally I would love a 1.6T engine, in fact any size with a turbo, I would like some advice regarding mondeo/focus engines, or what you recommend for the engine conversion.

The reason I want a conversion rather than buying a new car is due to the money spent already and the connection I have with this car now (sounds soppy as hell I know)

Thanks guys, look forward for your help! : :)

You need Zetec to Zetec, for the sake of the loom otherwise you'll be off to Wirewizard and dropping a few K down them to make one up for you.

FRP engine is the way to go, the Fiesta takes the engine and gearbox with ease and it's been done by a fair few people, if cost is a factor a really common one is the 1.7NA Puma engine, the cars go quite well with that in it.

Or take the ST150 engine and loom from a smashed up donor and put some MR bits on it, quite cheap to buy all of it, you can get a decent engine, loom and box for £1k and take it up to around 180BHP easily enough, plus is a common application so you are spoilt for choice in terms of repair and parts, aftermarket goodies.

Thanks Matt!

I agree, I have done some research and I think the ST Engine is best for affordability and reliability, and also in terms of engine layout and mounts,

What I would like to know is the extend of extra parts needed, I mean, the engine, gearbox, ecu, but do i need any driveshaft parts, mounts etc,

ST engine is easy to bling up with nice goodies as you said so yeah that looks best!

Just take it all from the ST, you will need the ST Driveshafts but take it all, inc gaiters pref make sure they are already on as gaiters can be a mare to put back on and the clips are expensive.

Might be best if you have space at home, is to buy one that been hit in the back or something and just take what you need, extra benefit if you could take the seats which are also heated and take all the switched and even the dash etc and be set with it, would probably only cost about £1.5k maximum for a cat D and in fact it's a bargain if the lump, box, shafts and seats are in decent condition.

Thanks Matt,

Yeah I will have a look, although I am against buying a donor car, I realised i will need the rear brakes as well,

I have been looking at the seats for a while, been waiting for a nice set to pop up for £300ish, almost bought an immaculate set for £400.

Donor car makes more sense though, buying a tatty ST will give you the rear beam and discs as well, plus if you need any extra fuel lines or pump you can salvage it all.

Whereabouts in Surrey are you? Never seen a Fiesta Like your rolling about.
