Frosty Mornings & Condensation!

Featured Replies

At long last a frosty morning! Another one tomorrow but more widespread and foggy so better be aware!

What gets me though is the sheer amount of condensation on the inside of the windscreen! Must be because of the recent heavy rain leaving loads of moisture about.

This morning I had the air flow all pointing at the windscreen, fan speed level 3, max heat, air con activated and heated windscreen on. Obviously its only luke warm at best with a cold engine but even once the engine had fully warmed up and the heat was so intense that I felt like a rotisserie chicken, there were still some small patches of condensation that the car was struggling to clear.

Still, its better than mild temps. Give me a frosty morning over manky mild and rain anyday.

Yeh I've noticed this too recently, feels like there's enough wet on the inside to bottle up and wash a cow. Still, at least with heated screens we don't have to spend ages stood out in the cold scraping the window! Except for the edges which aren't heated but the wipers go over of course. Great bit of design work there.

I've never had a car that suffers so much from condensation inside and I've owned or had long term use of more than 20 cars in 37 years. There seems to be something wrong with modern Fiesta design as this is the 3rd one after having a mk4 and a mk 5 which didn't suffer like the Mk 7 does.

All 3 of the m7.5 fiestas I've had suffer from this

I must say I never had it this bad in the Land Rovers I had.

I've heard that Rain X coating on the inside of the windscreen prevents it. I have car OCD though so the smears would do my head in.

RainX do an anti-fog

It helps a little bit.

To get rid of the smears, you have to buff it pretty firmly with a microfibre cloth, which reduces the effectiveness of it

my smax suffered from this also this morning.

worse car i had renault 17 had to take an ice scrapper to the inside of the screen it was that bad/cold.

And I thought it was just mine! Never had a car like it for getting ice on the inside of the windscreen in the winter. I kept looking for leaks but everywhere was dry!

My focus suffers really badly too, not sure how best to tackle it as when it drips down the windscreen it makes a right mess and I have to clean it daily.

Probs coming in from the damp on yer feet a tend to have a small tub of salt on floor when I know it's gonna be wet so in morning it's dry as can be

ma mate buys scented moisture remover aswell which is good aswell a don't have condensation issues anymore but because my clothes are always damp because of our lovely Scottish weather it can be a issue but never had it "dripping" ever

Have noticed a lot of modern cars seem to do this dont know why, is it to do with aircon? Or because they are sealed better have a look next time you're in traffic .

Rain X doesn't prevent the apparent high level of moisture inside the car. Just helps to stop it from condensing on the screen. Therefore, it must go somewhere else.

Had this problem with all of my mk7/mk7.5 fiestas. Used to get to the car and have to sit and wait for it to clear while other people in 10 year old cars are getting in and driving straight off!

In wet weather you are getting into the car with wet clothes, shoes and also letting water in when doors/windows are opened.

Even the moisture from your body (breath/perspiration) will stay in the car.

Even in cold weather the inside of the car will absorb a small amount of radiated heat from any small amount of sun therefore causing condensation.

The glass stays cold so the condensation will form on it.

A domestic dehumidifier will help a fair bit, just don't knock it over.

I have had ice on the inside of car windows before, a plug in piezo ceramic heater will help to defrost inside/outside quickly and a wipe along the bottom of the screen with a sponge cloth will help to reduce further condensation.

I had frost on the inside of the windscreen today. Soon defeated by the heated screen though.
