Winter Service Question?

Featured Replies

Alright Guys

I brought a Ford Fiesta from A Ford Dealership in September this year and have take out the service plan as well.. I have been advised to the do the winter and summer service every six months..

I was just wondering do I have to wait until Feb to do it? Or can I do it before Christmas so it's ready for the winter etc... What do you suggest??

Who's advising you to do a winter and summer service? The car need a service every 12.5k miles or 12 months whichever is sooner.

Some garages do winter checks but these shouldn't be needed on a new car ( is yours new?) they are usually just checks on battery condition, tyres, coolant etc. most of which you could do yourself. Sounds like someone's trying to get some more money out of you.

Oh sorry it's a used car..... I thought you had to do winter and summer services every 6 months.....

The winter and summer checks is part of what I am paying for.. I am paying per month to do a service and mot at the end of the years and those checks are included free of charge in the price

to be honest, winter and summer services are a good idea, as it keeps the car in the peak of health, but, the service plans cover one service a year, and if you dont have enough in the kitty, then you have to top it up.

But should I wait until the 6 months from when I got the car, or can I DO I sooner like in December???????????? Or is that not a good idea

I have the service plan and was tempted to do the same thing, but doing it that way, you have to pay out the price difference between however many monthly payments and however much you have to top it up by!

to be honest, if its been recently serviced (oil, oil filter, air filter) then it should easily get you through till the first proper service. I tend to do once a year, otherwise I just look about for the cheapest. For example, I could have serviced oil, oil filter and brake fluid myself for about £40, but for £45 kwik fit (yeah I know!) would do the same thing, and it saved me the agro of disposing of the fluids etc along with the time and effort) so sometimes doing things like this makes all the difference to the bank balance, but if I had the containers, tools etc I would have done it myself.

to be honest, I would do something like that, then replace the air filter myself, blank the egr, and buy a tin of BG244, that would get you through!

Sorry to sound a little bit stupid but please bear with me.. I thought that the winter and summer checks were free of charge that is what I got told by the service plan lady over the phone... I'm sure I got some paperwork lying around that says that too.. So why would I have to pay any price? I know for any parts neeed

Checks are nothing more than 'is your car suitable for the weather' as opposed to anything else that is free, however a service is more the repeated maintenance of your car. :-)
