Hi while driving yesterday my mk 6 with the digital dashboard temperature went from the middle straight to the too and flashing, I checked coolant level and that was fine, n ok leaks also.,so started it back up and it stayed in the middle for an hour or so then shot straight back to the top. Every time I have to turn the car of and re start then it stays in the middle again. Anyone know what this could be? Mane the temperature sensor?

Does the temp shoot up when you are driving or idling?

It's been whilst driving, today I went out and after an hour or so driving it started doing it so I assume it's when it's been warmed up but as soon as I cut the engine and restart it it's back down to half way and stays there a while then shoot up again,, it doesn't go up in quaters it goes from half way to the top

Sounds like the impeller on the water pump is spinning on the shaft, works OK at low revs but cannot keep up with the shaft when your on the move and the engine overheats.
