hi there guys my fathers car was making a noise and it was losing water slowly from the water bottle.

The car is a 2004 mk1 ford focus tdci 1.8. Took it to his local garage today and he has been informed it needs a new water pump and cam belt. and another belt which i cant remember.

Does the cam belt need to be changed? it was only changed less than 20000 miles ago.

Also the garage has given him a quote for 350.00. is this about right?

thanks guys look forward to hearing your replies.

many thanks

The other belt will be the auxiliary drive belt, otherwise wrongly known as the fan belt.

I would replace the cam belt, false economy not too and it's extra piece of mind. It's coming off anyway so the only additional cost will be parts.

The timing belt (cam)As far as I know does not drive the water pump on your fathers car.To replace a timing belt should cost around £200 and unless it is damaged 20,000 miles is too early for a change.Your father should only be paying for a new waterpump.

I paid £160 inc VAT tor Water Pump, Tensioner and Cam Belt.

Probably best to shop around for the best price.
