  • You basically only need the following parts: * 5 Inch display (FCDIM) with SD slot. The prefix of the part number must be the same as the currently installed display. * SD-card with maps.

  • If your car has the correct Sat Nav compatible Radio unit you need the following parts: * 5 Inch FCDIM module (display) with the correct part number. * SD-card with maps. * GPS antenna with Fakr

So i have a 2014 st3 with sync 1 what part number screen and Sony unit would I need? Once I get these bits would it just be a case of fitting and adding the wires for it all to work?

Hi there. I am in exactly the same boat as yourself. I have a 63 plate focus zetec tdci and bought a navigation system from a 2014 titanium ( sony fascia). Plugged it in all works fine except for no voice instructions. Did you ever manage to get to the bottom of it?

is your bluetooth working?

The Bluetooth issue is caused by the older (Sat Nav) radio unit or FCDIM module not being compatible with the SYNC system. There is not an easy solution to fix this.

If your car also has the "High Level" radio unit you can use the original audio unit. The only problem may be the FCDIM module which must be compatible with the radio unit and SYNC system. Older (pre-SYNC) FCDIM modules are not compatible with the newer SYNC Sat Nav system.

Okay, then I have to buy one(sat nav display) from a 2013 car?, my car is from 2013 with bluetooth/USB/SYnc, and the only thing I have to do is connect 2 wires to get voice navigation? and a working bluetooth?

If your car has the correct Sat Nav compatible Radio unit you need the following parts:

* 5 Inch FCDIM module (display) with the correct part number.

* SD-card with maps.

* GPS antenna with Fakra C (blue) connector.

* Antenna cable. Fakra A (black) to Fakra H (violet). This cable is needed for TMC and is connected between the radio unit and the FCDIM module.

* Dashboard panel for 5 Inch FCDIM module. As an alternative the original dashboard panel can be modified.

* Radio control panel with "NAV" button. As an alternative the original radio panel can be used.

My car had the "High Level" radio unit with part number BM5T-18C815-GL (Finis 1824881). I installed a 5 Inch Sat Nav FCDIM module with part number BM5T-18B955-DC (Finis 1779445). Afterwards the Navigation settings menu was available on the radio. The Navigation function was also available but because there was no SD-card inserted this function was greyed out at that time.

After I bought a cheap 2013 SD-card for testing and inserted this into the display all Navigation functions were available. I did not have a suitable GPS antenna but in TEST mode all seemed to work except for the navigation audio. I bought a cheap (€5,-) aftermarket GPS antenna on Ebay and installed this into the right A-pillar. This GPS antenna works great and has a strong GPS reception.

After I studied the original Focus MK3 schematics I found out that there were seperate wires for the navigation audio. On cars without Sat Nav these wires are often missing. After I took these wires from a scrap car and installed them into my car the navigation audio is fully functional.

I bought the 5 Inch FCDIM and wiring at a local scrap yard for about €10,-. I bought the GPS antenna (€5,-) and the SD-card €9,50) on Ebay. The complete retrofit costed me under €25,-.

Currently the system is fully functional but to finsih it completely I want to install the radio control panel with "NAV" button also.

Hi there. Yes my bluetooth is working fine when i installed the sat nav. I tried it with a fakra gps antenna and it picked up 8 satellites within 10 seconds all was well until i put in a destination and there was no voice. I had the blue lcd screen in mine and removed this to install the gps screen but i left the old radio in. Should i put in the radio that came with the sat nav? As it is a higher spec according to ford microcat. Cheers

The navigation audio is communicated from the display to the radio unit by 2 wires. On cars without Sat Nav these 2 wires are usually missing.

Installing the 2 missing wires will most likely solve the problem.

So i would also have to use focccus to change the control panel over to nav from standard and to 5 inch. As i said in my earlier post mines from a 2014 model so the screen part number on mine in F1BT 18B955 DA.

You should indeed reprogram the Central Configuration of the car with the correct settings. However this will not solve the Navigation Audio problem.

Lots of questions... I found one with this part number, would it be good or, its from a 2012 focus??

AM5T-18B955-DJ

Thanks for the advice youve been brilliant. Just regarding the fakra cable you mention how does that fit onto the radio?

The black Fakra connector (FM antenna) which is now inserted into the radio unit needs to be removed and inserted into the Black Fakra connector (Antenna input) of the FCDIM module. The Violet Fakra connector of the connection cable needs to be inserted into the violet Fakra connector (Antenna output) of the FCDIM module. The Black Fakra connector of the connection cable needs to be inserted into the black connector (Antenna input) of the radio unit.

Basically the FCDIM module only needs the FM signal for the TMC reception and acts as a passthrough device for the FM antenna.

Right ive got you now i wondered what them extra connectors where on the back of the screen. Now you know what im going to ask you next dont you lol. Where did you get this cable from? Sorry to be a pain but your the only person who knows what there on about regarding the sat nav installation.

I took the original cable out of a scrap car. The part number of this cable is BV6T-18812-DAA (finis 1782664). This cable costs approximately €16,-

As an alternative you can also use a cable with 2 female Fakra Z (water blue) conectors. The Fakra Z connector is a universal connector which fits to all possible Fakra connectors. These cables are often offered on Ebay.

Thank you so much for the part number i can go and order one in the next few days then i might just go to The local car audio shop and ask about them 2 wires and see if they will do it for me. Cheers

Just one last question. You say the wires go into The radio connector which connector is this? The connector by the 2 antennas or the one closest to the drivers side. Cheers

Cheers thanks for that. Im still trying to source some wire at the moment but wanted to make sure when i get it that i dont connect it too the wrong block and make the thing go pop. How hard can it be too find a mk3 focus scrapper lol

In my country (the Netherlands) the Focus MK3 can be found relatively easy on a scrap yard.

I am a regular customer of a local company which buys/sells/repairs (young) damaged cars. They also have a big scrap yard with hundreds of scrap cars. Lat week I was at the scrap yard and they had at least 6 Focus MK3 scrap cars.

Im finding it really difficult to get the wiring. Maybe i should move to holland lol. Its a shame you havent got any spare wires i would have given you a few pounds to send it over.

Well ive managed to get the black and violet patch cable cost me £10 but still trying to find that wiring. When you say you took yours off the car where the pins already attached on the wires or did you have to cut the wires and attach your own? Cheers

On the scrap yard I untaped the radio wiring of the scrap car and took the navigation audio wiring. These 2 wires are connected between the radio unit and the display and are taped together with the other wiring into the main wiring loom.

You can also cut the radio unit connector and the display connector with about 15 cm of cable out of a scrap car and use this to solder your own wiring of the correct length.

Ive seen a loom of a titanium x on the net which has all the wiring that i need. So basically just follow the two wires and take them out of the loom then plug them back into my fcdim and radio connector and then hopefully we should have voice activation?.

Well ive got my loom and sods law it had the black and pink connector on it which ive just bought so back to fords for a refund on that. Anyway what a pain to take out of the harness . Took me over an hour to get all the tape and cable ties off but i got there in the end. So hopefully i should have it all fitted on friday so will let you know how i get on.

Well ive put it all together and and connected the wires like you said and bingo we have full voice navigation. JW1982 i cant thank you enough. Cheers mate
