There Should Be Some Kind Of Anti-Deer Law..

Featured Replies

So, me and the wife was driving home form the movies the day before new years, its evening a bit dark driving along the motorway, when suddenly a deer decides to charge out in front of the car, no time to brake, i hit it front on with +100km/h, all front airbags go off, seat bealts tighten, and i loose control, we drift sideways around 300m across the other lanes, and finally the car stops when we hit the grass next to the highway. Luckily there was no other cars around us at the time, so no one hit the car.

The result:

Lucky there was no serious person damage, my neck hurted like hell the day after, but shortly diapered after.

The car was driven to my local Ford dealer, they qouted me £6500 in repairs (all front airbags, seat belts, the whole front, new front window and so on.. (i didnt get the full list yet) insurance agreed to pay for it, as it should :) But my insurance will be even more expensive, around £900 a year..ufff..

They tell me i can get it back middle of next week.

My little story :)

I've had a couple of close calls with Venison...but thankfully never hit one (parked car instead lol)

They really should be taught the Green Cross Code - I mean, come on...HEDGEHOGS know it well enough to teach us humans!!!

On a more serious note - glad there were no serious injuries!!

Ouch, glad there are no lasting injuries. I think we just move too fast for animals, their instincts tell them that nothing can run anywhere near as fast as a car so they just don't notice the danger until it's too late.

Some poor driver travelling on the M4 hit a wild boar near us the other day. Wasn't as lucky as you, his car was collected by a HGV. Absolutely tragic.

Hitting a deer is one of my biggest fears. I once hit a pheasent at 70mph and couldn't believe the damage.

Strange law in the uk is that if you hit and kill an animal (deer pheasant ect ) you can't take it home to eat but the driver behind you can (if they canbe bothered stopping and picking it up ) glad no one was hurt in your accident though

It's to avoid 'poaching by vehicle'.

You wouldn't want to eat a deer hit by a car anyway, the meat tastes terrible.

It's to do with the animal dying in a traumatic manner and the blood pooling in the muscles.

Oh deer! (Sorry :P )

Glad you were ok and the car is repairable. Poor deer though. :(

A chef friend of pal of mine once picked up a freshly-killed deer and decided to treat everyone to a venison BBQ.

Got a nasty dose ringworm...

:D

As a side note, I used to volunteer at a wildlife hospital. I've seen the injuries that RTA deer (and other creatures) get. It's horrific. Most don't survive. If the injury doesn't kill them, or they have to be put to sleep (read: "shot"), then the shock often will. I've seen enough dead, injured and dying animals to last me a lifetime.

PLEASE be aware of and alert for animals crossing the road. For your sake and theirs!!

Deer don't do stress very well at all.

It can kill them just as quickly as an injury.

Looks good all things considered could be worse

The worst I have done is decimated a pigeon at 70 mph, luckily I was in a E34 BMW 525 and all it did was knock the front plate off on one side, but the poor bird literally exploded over the underside. One new screw and a jetwash and all was well again.

Lol that happened to me although a lot slower, about 35 ish in my old MK6 Fiesta. I was slowing down just coming into a town, and out of nowhere a pigeon swooped down from the left and hit around the top edge of the bonnet, then bounced off the winscreen and over the roof. No damage luckily, but the pigeon left some feathers embedded on the wipers, and some other "mess" for me to clean up.
