Service Plan, Again (Sorry).

Featured Replies

Went to my local dealer who wanted £637.20 for a 3 year plan. After sucking my teeth they suddenly produced a 10% discount down to £573.49 or 30 payments of ~£19.

That's basically for 2 oil & filter changes and an extended 3rd year service.

I asked, would this be the same price at any dealership, should be, they said.

I'll think about it. Cripes, I could do it myself for <£100.

I then asked for a quote for supplying and fitting mudflaps all round, £177. So I bought a pressure washer.

I'm obviously living in the past.

EDIT: Sorry, dunno how to delete repeat posts.

Do you have an ST by any chance? I was quoted around the same figure and asked why so high?

They said because it's a performance car service costs are higher, also threw the 10% discount at me but wasn't keen as I'm not having the car for 3years anyway!

Could pay a monkey in bananas and they'd be able to do the same thing in half the time!

Nope, a 125 Tit. I think the theory is, keep upping the price until enough punters tell'em where to get. That then sets the price.

(£177 mudflaps apparently take 1hr to fit, presumably with tea-breaks).

I don't mind being ripped off when I don't realise it.

Ford charge £100 to supply and fit a full set of mud flaps - at least, that's what they are charging me and 2 different dealers gave the same price.

What franchise would that be?

And some ford places don't charge the same as i know that for some reason.

I only wanted a passenger airbag switch activated,1 place £57 other place £45,only 2 mile between the

2 garages.

Ford garages aren't all the same, they are only connected if they are in the same group, ie SMC or lifestyle etc, they arent operated by ford either so they can set their own labour rates. Shop around you could find an independent ford dealer who could do it cheaper, or take it to a garage of your choice, as long as ford parts are you everything is fine.

The second year service costs more and the service plan should include the recommended brake fluid change. Most service plans also give you a discount off spares and accessories, mine was 15%

You could buy the mudflaps and fit them yourself

That was two different franchises, Think Ford and Hendy Ford; one in Farnborough and the other in Southampton.

Yes you could fit the mud flaps yourself quite easily and I think they are secured using clips with screws but, worse case, you might have to remove the wheels to give you more room. I think the full set of Ford contoured flaps is around £45'ish.

Cheers Mark. Ordinarily I would but the years have brought mobility problems.

I paid £540 for a 3 year plan on an ST including the brake fluid change at year 2 (which is normally around £50 I think). Ford also do their own service plans of 2/3 years including the brake fluid for £330/550 but I ended up with mine cheaper through the dealer as obviously they wanted the business directly (a big discount was applied to their normal quote). If you can't get them to go below that price just buy it through Ford and get the garage to service it anyway!

Got my service plan through the dealer at £13 a month for 3 years so about £460. Just had first service last week and it feels good not having to pay anything on the day
