Just fitted my HID4U kit and looks really great but ,i seem to have 2
dark lines on the road one from each lamp.....not major but a bit off
putting.2 dark shadows i suppose start in front of the car a few feet
facing the direction of travel for about 20 feet maybe where the nearly
meet in the middle nealy like a v shape

anyone seen this before and can it be rectified ? i looks like i have
the bulbs in wrong or something but with the H7 dont think i can have.i
have had a few HID kits before and never seen anything like this
before.

Hi mate, on the st you will get those shadows with HID'S, it's the design of them. It's like that on mine and a friends st. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it. It looks like you do have the bulbs in correctly because the beam in the pic looks normal.

yes tom looks like are correct m8.i have an idea, is there any way the bulb holder on the lamp unit could be taken off and rotated 180 degrees ? the shadows are caused by the rod on the outside of the bulbs.they just need rotating .if this makes sense

In all honesty I dont know but it sounds like a tricky thing to try. I found after a few days you don't seem to notice the shadow anymore.

They look good, very bright. I went for 35w 4300k for the oem xenon look.

The road surface hides the shadows in that pic, a mixture of mud and water on the road. I think because yours are brighter being 55w it may make the shadows stand out a but clearer aswell.

found this on another forum ,this is the exact issue and solution.

When you install the HID bulbs, you'll notice that when the bulb goes in, the return wire is facing up (THAT IS WRONG).

When you put the bulb in with the return wire facing down, the bulb
won't sit flush therefore you have to notch it. Attach is a pic, the red
shows where the part that needs to be cut, use a dremel or some strong wire cutters will do.

Cut the bottoms off. Or remove the two tabs from the light unit

I fitted H7 35w 6000k and love them, as was discussed in other forum I did notice that the lights were set to low after installing them, have you manually set them to the correct hight?

Thanks willy that confirms what i read on another forum. out of intrerest what did you use to cut the steel on the bulb ?

not going to attack the housing.

I used a dremel but a hacksaw / sharp scissors would also do it.

Just to let you all know cutting the H7 bulb on the opposite side and
rotating it 180 Degrees worked just fine no more shadows on the road :D

pictures as promised :First photo shows the area to cut out the bulb,
i used a junior hack saw on the first bulb and a dremel on the second
(a lot easier) this then allows you to rotate the bulb 180 Degrees in
the bulb holder.....second photo shows the bulb after cutting ...

all you have to do then is cut a nice round hole in the the rubber cover cap that you have to remove to get the bulb out.

for this i found a 10p piece the prefect fit for the HID rubber grommet,i cut around the 10p with a craft knife (very easy)

i reckon about 10-15 mins maximum to complete.

this is the end result with no dark telegraph pole shadows now with the bulbs rotated 180 degrees.

  • 2 years later...

Hello my fellow ford enthusiasts all the way from Romania :) I recently installed hid kits ( 55w 4300k ) in my OEM headlights and this is the cut-off I got, those "eyebrows" are from the bulb not facing the right way ? can any of you please post a picture with the headlights facing the wall like mine so I know for sure that the bulb not facing the right way is the problem ? thank you very much, I posted my problem on the Romanian ford owners forum but can't seem to get a definitive answer
